They were a couple that grabbed the world’s attention on social media, but since Liz Kavanagh’s<\/a> passing in May, from cancer, her husband Kieran has been trying to remain positive.<\/p>\n

Liz was diagnosed with colon cancer after she had undergone surgery for Crohn’s disease, and in 2024 she shared her diagnosis online. <\/p>\n

With her husband, Kieran O’ Malley, Liz decided to document her journey until her passing earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Featuring on RT\u00c9’s Miriam O’ Callaghan show, Kieran spoke about how he has been coping since her death. <\/p>\n

‘It’s difficult, and you have to take one day at a time, and everyone grieves very differently, but I’m trying to, I suppose, live my life in a way that Liz would want.’ <\/p>\n

Friends, family and the community have shown their support <\/a>with the Galway man highlighting how his GAA team have been exceptional in providing support.<\/p>\n

‘It has been difficult. As I say with the firsts [attending weddings and events without Liz] but people have been so kind and I really get so much comfort from that. I am back playing football, and the GAA community have been amazing, every game I play, the other team are coming up to me. I have started grief counselling; I just think it\u2019s important to do something like that, but I am really lucky to be surrounded by brilliant people.’<\/p>\n

Friends of the couple are keeping an eye on Kieran, making sure he is coping ok during this difficult time. <\/p>\n

He spoke of how ‘Her (Liz) friends warned me, so this isn’t the end. We’re here, we’re looking after you for good.’<\/p>\n

He recalled how one of Liz’s closest friends sent him something that meant a great deal to him, after Liz had passed. <\/p>\n

‘A friend of hers sent me a lovely number of screenshots recently after her funeral. She was the first person that Liz told that we started dating. So I got to see these messages that Liz had sent to her friend saying, I’ve just met this guy!’ Almost being able to feel her excitement through the phone.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the launch of a new fundraising candle, “Liz\u2019s Light,” in aid of Galway Hospice, Kieran said the hospice “were just amazing” and that the initiative “hopefully will raise some much-needed funds”.<\/p>\n

‘We (Kieran and Liz’s friends) came up with a scent that we thought Liz would be particularly happy with and then I called over to her granny and her mum, and they loved the scent as well.’ <\/p>\n
