If you want to sink your teeth into a gritty new drama then look no further, as the full series of Chorus Girls is now streaming on Channel 4. Set in the ’70s, the Danish show centres around eight female chorus dancers, working at Copenhagen’s Circusrevyen revue theatre. <\/p>\n

While pursuing their dreams of glamour and fame, the women are forced to deal with the reality of the male-dominated industry and the various struggles synonymous with their job.<\/p>\n

The series explores themes of sexism, financial inequality and domestic violence, as well as highlighting the surge in feminism at the time. <\/p>\n

“Set during the upheaval and protest of the mid-1970s. Life’s not all glitter, show and smiles for the women who join the Cirkusrevyen dance troop,” reads the synopsis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chorus Girls first aired in Denmark back in 2023, with the original title Dansegarderoben. Now, all eight episodes have arrived in the UK and can be streamed on Channel 4 for free (with ads). <\/p>\n

The Danish drama was awarded four stars by Nordic Watchlist<\/a>, who said it was “definitely worth watching”.<\/p>\n

“While the title and poster allude to something light and cosy, the eight part series tackles some pretty difficult themes: sexism and misogyny, violence against women, jealousy, low self-esteem and more,” reads the review. <\/p>\n

“So the comedic elements in the series largely serve to make its tough messages more poignant. That said, Chorus Girls isn’t without its warmth and feelgood factors, but they come predominantly through the triumphs and bonding of the characters.” <\/p>\n

The show is part of Channel 4’s Walter Presents collection – a catalogue of international shows selected by TV connoisseur Walter Iuzzolino. It joins a number of existing Danish titles including The Pushover, The Sommerdahl Murders, Seaside Hotel, Dopamine and Fatal Crossing.<\/p>\n
