Samsung\u2019s Galaxy Unpacked event<\/a> will include the launch of the new Galaxy Z Fold8 family, and the South Korean company faces fierce competition in the foldables space. To retain the number one spot, Samsung will have to fight against well-established Android rivals before its old rival, Apple, turns up with the iPhone Ultra.<\/p>\n

The High Bar Set By Honor For The Galaxy Z Fold8<\/p>\n

Honor released the Magic V6 at Mobile World Congress 2026 to establish an explicit dimension benchmark ahead of Samsung’s summer product cycle.<\/p>\n

Honor launched the Magic V6 at Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026<\/a> in March. Widely seen as an early launch following the Magic V5\u2019s arrival in September. When it launched, it was the thinnest foldable on the market, shaving a millimetre away from the Magic V5 design. The hinge was reworked to offer a smaller profile when closed, and the introduction of silicon-carbon battery technology offering 6,600 mAh in global versions.<\/p>\n

The Magic V6 defined what a foldable could deliver in 2026. It dominated the MWC reports, and as the releases rolled out in China, Europe, and the rest of the world<\/a>, it has remained in the headlines. Honor broke free of the pack and has been setting the pace in the first half of the year. Samsung’s foldable is going to get compared to the Magic V6; its specifications are the high-water mark that the new Fold must reach and exceed.<\/p>\n

Expect to see Honor to start some aggressive marketing following the launch of the Galaxy foldables with a mix of discount pricing and bundled accessories.<\/p>\n

The iPhone Ultra Can Make The Galaxy Z Fold8 Look Out Of Place<\/p>\n

Apple is projected to enter the foldable ecosystem with a high-margin premium device to capture mature smartphone demographic tiers.<\/p>\n

Consumers expect Apple to turn up late to a sector, but with a better product than the competition. In practice, it\u2019s not always the case, as seen by the late and weak consumer-facing artificial intelligence in iOS, but there will be a thorough examination of Apple\u2019s approach to the foldable environment. <\/p>\n

Given Apple\u2019s closed ecosystem, the presumptively named iPhone Ultra<\/a> is likely to be a success thanks to its different focus. This is the one many in the Apple community are waiting for. No Android device is going to integrate into the Apple ecosystem in a satisfactory way, and Apple\u2019s way of working is subtly different from Android’s that the Galaxy Z Fold8 environment is going to look \u201cjust like every other foldable,\u201d while the iPhone Ultra stands out just by doing its own thing.<\/p>\n

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Must Play Offence And Defence<\/p>\n

The Galaxy Z Fold8 family is in an awkward position. When it launches in the traditional summer spot, it will be chasing the competition, fighting to prove itself against a rival known for pushing the edge of the specification envelope. Shortly after that moment, the challenge of Samsung\u2019s biggest competitor will arrive, with a different approach backed by the might of Apple\u2019s community and media love.<\/p>\n

At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung needs to come out on offence to take out the competition before moving to defence and bracing itself for the long-awaited rival that will definitely do things differently. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8\u2019s design and specifications are already set.
