Johnny Depp<\/a>‘s high-profile legal battle with his ex, Amber Heard<\/a>, was one of the most talked-about film-related stories of the decade. The time since hasn’t been kind to either, and Depp is only just getting back into the saddle of movie-making. The upcoming Christmas effort Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol will mark his return to the big screen, followed by his first major starring role post-lawsuit in Day Drinker<\/a>, an action thriller also starring Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Pen\u00e9lope Cruz<\/a> (The Invite), and Manu R\u00edos (Elite).<\/p>\n

Directed by Marc Webb<\/a>, who himself is looking for somewhat of a comeback following the disaster that was the live-action Snow White<\/a> remake in 2025, Day Drinker has now adopted a release date once held for Mel Gibson’s The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One, on March 26, 2027<\/a>. Gibson’s biblical return has now been postponed to May 6, 2027<\/a>. But the character comeback many are waiting for is in Depp’s most iconic role: Captain Jack Sparrow<\/a>, in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.<\/p>\n

We already know that a sixth film in Disney\u2019s blockbuster franchise<\/a>, which boasted its first PG-13 movie, is in the works. Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously hinted<\/a> that a role for Depp’s Sparrow might already be in the script, but will he be joined by other originals, Orlando Bloom<\/a> and Keira Knightley<\/a>? Plenty more is to be known about the next installment, but clearly its mere existence is exciting fans, which has led to the first installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl<\/a>, being currently one of the ten most-streamed movies on Disney+ in the U.S.<\/p>\n
