More than half a century after it was released, \u201cSweet Home Alabama\u201d is a major hit again in America. The Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/a> smash \u2013 perhaps the band\u2019s most recognizable song \u2013 returns to multiple Billboard charts thanks to the recent July Fourth holiday.<\/p>\n It is one of several older compositions that reappear after sales and streams of patriotic and America-themed music grew exponentially during the most recent tracking period. This was not an average Independence Day, as the nation celebrated its milestone two-hundred-and-fiftieth birthday. <\/p>\n \u201cSweet Home Alabama\u201d ranks among this week\u2019s biggest gainers, returning to the most important songs tally in the country, earning Lynyrd Skynyrd a first No. 1 on another list and lifting the band to new career peaks.<\/p>\n \u201cSweet Home Alabama\u201d Returns to the Billboard Hot 100<\/p>\n \u201cSweet Home Alabama\u201d<\/a> reenters the Billboard Hot 100<\/a>, coming in at No. 31 as it becomes a top 40 hit once again. The Billboard Hot 100 is the most important songs roster in the U.S., as it looks at total consumption, not only sales or streams or radio airplay, but all three at once.<\/p>\n Lynyrd Skynyrd Ties One of Its Own Biggest Hits<\/p>\n As of this frame, \u201cSweet Home Alabama,\u201d which debuted on the tally in the summer of 1974, has racked up 18 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. It ties \u201cWhat\u2019s Your Name\u201d<\/a> as Lynyrd Skynyrd\u2019s second-longest-charting hit. \u201cFree Bird\u201d<\/a> remains the group\u2019s champion when it comes to longevity, with 20 turns on the roster. <\/p>\n Lynyrd Skynyrd has scored half a dozen Billboard Hot 100 hits, all of which first appeared on the ranking during the mid-to-late 1970s. \u201cSaturday Night Special,\u201d \u201cYou Got That Right\u201d and \u201cDouble Trouble\u201d failed to reach double-digit stays on the tally, lasting nine, four and three weeks, respectively.<\/p>\n Several Patriotic Hits Return Together<\/p>\n \u201cSweet Home Alabama\u201d scores the third-highest reentry on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Toby Keith\u2019s \u201cCourtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)\u201d leads the returning favorites at No. 11, establishing a new career high for both the song and the late country musician. Miley Cyrus\u2019s \u201cParty in the U.S.A.\u201d follows at No. 25. <\/p>\n Zac Brown Band\u2019s \u201cChicken Fried,\u201d Journey\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believin\u2019,\u201d Bruce Springsteen\u2019s \u201cBorn in the U.S.A.,\u201d John Denver\u2019s \u201cTake Me Home, Country Roads,\u201d Creedence Clearwater Revival\u2019s \u201cFortunate Son\u201d and Kenny Chesney\u2019s \u201cAmerican Kids\u201d also reenter within the top 50 on the 100-space roster.<\/p>\n Lynyrd Skynyrd Scores Its First Rock Streaming No. 1<\/p>\n
