Coronation Street has teased more relationship trouble for Gary Windass and Maria Connor this week, as Theo Silverton’s murder investigation comes to a head. The pair remain at odds following Sarah Platt’s recent arrest<\/a> – but could this really be the end of their marriage?<\/p>\n

Viewers know that Sarah was the one who killed villain Theo earlier this year, by hitting him with a pole before he fell off the scaffolding to his death. Panicking, Sarah called her ex-boyfriend Gary<\/a> to help cover up the crime and they’ve been in cahoots ever since. <\/p>\n

However, it wasn’t long before their respective partners, DC Kit Green and Maria, became suspicious of their secrecy and accused them of having an affair. Sarah later confessed the full truth to Kit, with the detective stepping in<\/a> to get rid of any lingering evidence. <\/p>\n

In tonight’s episode, Maria fears Gary is about to be arrested before the family see Sarah being hauled away by the police<\/a>. But despite Sarah’s arrest, tensions between the couple continue to rise later this week when horrified Maria finds a photo disproving the fake alibi she gave Gary. <\/p>\n

In newly released spoiler clip for Thursday’s episode, the pair decide to play nice at home in front of their boys. However, when Liam and Jake leave, the mood in the flat suddenly shifts and it’s clear that Maria is reassessing her alibi – and possibly even her marriage.<\/p>\n

“Well, there’s no point ruining their days as well,” she says, referring to her demeanour around the kids. “Might as well let them enjoy life while they still can.”<\/p>\n

When Gary tries to assure her that they could be worrying over nothing, an unconvinced Maria scoffs. She points out that their lives have already been affected by his lies. <\/p>\n

“It doesn’t matter what the police do,” she says. “As far as me and you are concerned, the damage is done.”<\/p>\n

Has the couple’s marriage finally reached breaking point? Or will Sarah’s upcoming confession relieve some of the pressure from their cover-up? <\/p>\n
