{"id":559828,"date":"2026-07-20T23:58:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T23:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/559828\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T23:58:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T23:58:14","slug":"maurice-regans-high-court-action-against-john-magnier-transferred-to-competition-list-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/559828\/","title":{"rendered":"Maurice Regan\u2019s High Court action against John Magnier transferred to competition list \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A High Court legal action by US-based construction magnate Maurice Regan\u2019s stud farm against billionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/john-magnier\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/john-magnier\/\">John Magnier<\/a> and his stud for allegedly breaching competition law has been transferred to the competition list of the Commercial Court division. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Regan\u2019s Newtown Anner Stud Farm Ltd, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, claims Magnier and a number of other parties have employed anticompetitive practices and abuse of a dominant position in the market by barring Newtown from using a local equine hospital as well as Coolmore itself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Along with Magnier, Newtown Anner has also sued his son MV Magnier, Linley Investments trading as Coolmore\/Castlehyde and Associated Stud Farms, Trans European Transport Ltd, along withCoolmore executives Michael Ryan, William Macksey, Jerome Case, Paul Shanahan and David Wachman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Also sued are O\u2019Byrne &amp; Halley Veterinary Surgeons Ltd, Fethard Surgical Ltd and Equine Diagnostic Laboratory Ltd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The plaintiff seeks a declaration prohibiting Magnier and Coolmore from instructing, directing, inducing, threatening or otherwise causing any third party including the Fethard Equine Hospital from ceasing or disrupting services to it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The defendants have denied the claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Monday, the case was briefly mentioned before Judge Eileen Roberts in the Commercial Court when Martin Hayden, counsel for Newtown Anner, said the case should be in the competition list.
