The modern engagement ring<\/a> may have originated as a commercial campaign in the 1930s and 1940s but today, it\u2019s a deeply personal artefact. As they look for the perfect ring to mark their commitment, couples are embracing the uniqueness of their connection.<\/p>\n

Loletta Lai, Natural Diamond APAC vice-president of De Beers Group, says that in 2026, couples are prioritising personal narratives as they search for rings that tell an \u201cauthentic story of individuality and connection\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sally Ryder, director of Hong Kong-based Ryder Diamonds, echoes this turn towards bespoke rings, saying \u201cShoppers are now prioritising personalisation, [opting for] hidden engravings, birthstones, distinctive setting styles and thoughtful metal or stone choices that feel uniquely theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, while tradition still plays a role \u2013 round diamonds on platinum or white gold bands remaining popular, for example \u2013 there\u2019s a growing interest in thinking outside the box for what\u2019s arguably the most important jewellery purchase a couple will make.<\/p>\n

But celebrity culture is still a big influence, too. \u201cTaylor Swift\u2019s ring<\/a>, in particular, has driven increased requests for old mine cushion [diamonds] and more handcrafted, vintage-leaning settings,\u201d says Ryder, who specialises in bespoke diamond jewellery. \u201cAt the same time, stars like Dua Lipa and Zendaya have boosted interest in chunkier yellow gold and mix-and-match metal stacks for both the engagement ring and wedding band.\u201d\"Graff\u2019sGraff\u2019s Icon radiant-cut fancy yellow engagement ring. Classic, bright white diamonds remain a popular choice for many couples. But this year, jewellers are seeing a shift towards other colours \u2013 which many attribute to the popularity among celebrities \u2013 of what are termed desert diamonds. These natural diamonds \u2013 infused with warm, earthy tones ranging from champagne and honey to cognac and yellow \u2013 each carry subtle variations that are a celebration of individuality. They\u2019re becoming so sought-after that De Beers launched a campaign around these stones for their bridal collection.<\/p>\n

\u201cDesert diamonds<\/a> have gained momentum since [the campaign\u2019s] launch last year, \u2022as warmer-toned natural diamonds rise in popular culture and are embraced by figures like Bad Bunny, Doja Cat and Teyana Taylor,\u201d Lai explains. \u201cThis aesthetic shift is mirrored in high-profile bridal moments \u2013 especially Taylor Swift\u2019s warm, candlelight-toned natural engagement ring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Equally significant is the subtle shift in metal preferences. While silver-toned bands are still very much favoured, couples looking for more bespoke designs are increasingly gravitating towards metals of other colours.<\/p>\n
