{"id":561173,"date":"2026-07-21T18:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T18:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/561173\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T18:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T18:20:10","slug":"scottie-dog-statue-removed-from-glasgow-trail-as-police-launch-probe-into-significant-damage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/561173\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottie dog statue removed from Glasgow trail as police launch probe into &#8216;significant damage&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Scottie dog statue has been removed from a Glasgow charity trail after suffering \u201csignificant damage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The sculpture, known as Wanderlust, was located outside Buchanan Bus Station and is sponsored by Citylink.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Charlotte Brayley, it was one of 40 statues dotted around the city in support of cancer charity Maggie\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The statue suffered \u201csignificant damage\u201d, including chunks of its fibreglass shell being torn off at the base.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, it has been removed from the trail until it can be fully repaired.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/d1f12d7ecc2ab9e082a953a5084f81f8-1784651320.jpg\" width=\"810\" height=\"1080\"   alt=\"The base of the Scottie dog was damaged.\"\/>Maggie&#8217;sThe base of the Scottie dog was damaged. Maggie&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>Following the damage, <a href=\"https:\/\/justgiving.com\/campaign\/scottiesinthecity\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maggie\u2019s has launched a fundraiser<\/a> to help cover the costs of repairs to Wanderlust.<\/p>\n<p>Police have also launched an investigation into the vandalism.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson said: \u201cAround 8.30am on Monday, July 20, officers received a report of damage to a statue on Killermont Street, Glasgow. Enquiries are ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If the statue cannot be repaired in time to rejoin the Scotties in the City trail, the aim is for it to make an appearance at the farewell weekend at the end of August.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/e8252d750a60ffe3b00f45210fbe4d08-1784651507.jpg\" width=\"810\" height=\"608\"   alt=\"One of the statue's legs is now missing.\"\/>Maggie&#8217;sOne of the statue\u2019s legs is now missing. Maggie&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>All of the Scottie dogs will be put up for auction in September, raising vital funds for Maggie\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Maggie\u2019s director of income generation, Mark Cooper, said: \u201cIt is very sad to see our sculpture damaged.
