The event will grapple with one main theme, “Harnessing AI to Revolutionise Europe’s Competitiveness”, as Ireland and all of Europe eye digital transformation over the next decade.

AI Development in Ireland

Like many countries, Ireland is addressing the development and growth of its energy grid and internet infrastructure, driven by demand for generative AI. Ireland has become the global hub for data centres, having more than any other country per capita. While data centres are necessary for most online services, so the demand isn’t new, generative AI deployment has caused a spike in activity.

That’s why Ireland, along with the UK, US and the broader EU, have all published action plans targeting the supportive infrastructure that AI, and more generally the internet itself, relies on. It’s clear we’ll demand more power and efficiency out of these networks as time goes on, so governments want to unlock growth by removing limiting factors like data capacity.

If successful, it means the future growth of Ireland’s tech economy and every business model that relies on AI, and the internet as a whole. While we already see in-house AI deployed through giants like Google and Amazon, who both maintain centres in Ireland, we also see more niche, targeted use cases where AI supports online business. For example, online sites offering trading, banking or iGaming can contract AI-powered customer engagement technology, using AI to parse customer activity and respond with targeted, context-specific engagement instead of broad marketing. In that case, the AI doesn’t just cut busywork by automating certain processes, but can make marketing more personal, at a scale that’s impossible for traditional marketers. When it works, the result is better customer retention and the continued success of businesses serving them.

All else being equal, a European business with that kind of technology would outcompete an American one. That’s the philosophy that guides events like the International AI Summit in 2026, where competitiveness is on the agenda. While infrastructural development gets underway, the summit aims to fill the other side of the equation, establishing thought leaders, best practices and sustainable goals in AI deployment.

The International AI Summit 2026

The International AI Summit is an EU-led initiative with direct oversight from the European Commission. The 2025 summit was held in Brussels, with multiple broad themes discussed over the course of the event. Now that Ireland is the President of the Council of the European Union in October, and happens to be Europe’s biggest data centre market, they get to host the 2026 later this year.

More notable is the fact that its focus is much more specific now, moving away from broad discussions and more toward solid, actionable plans that deliver economic success. That’s no doubt informed by Ireland’s unique and heavily invested relationship with data centre hyperscalers. That, and the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment who oversee Ireland’s AI Office and will be organising 2026’s summit.

With the event still months away, the department has only given brief glimpses at the speaker lineup. It includes expected names like Micheál Martin, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, and the EU’s Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy. Executives from Qualcomm, Stripe and other digitally integrated businesses will also speak at the event, having hands-on experience at using AI for growth.

Time will tell what comes of the event, and what guidance some of Europe’s foremost AI builders and policymakers can give to Ireland’s fast-growing tech sectors.

On October 14th, 2026, the Royal Dublin Society will hold the government’s International AI Summit out of Dublin.…

[2
61,60,43
post-561478","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ireland","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-news
["GET
