An Egyptian street food business is opening a restaurant in Cork city.<\/p>\n

It’s great news for the team behind the popular Cairo 2 Cork food truck, weeks after the closure of the Fifth Quarter plaza threatened the future of the business.<\/p>\n

Owner Nivene Sadick from Ballyphehane has shared she has officially secured a new premises in South Parish. The restaurant will be at 22 Douglas Street, formerly occupied by Pierogarnia Dumplings.<\/p>\n

Work is underway to transform the building into the restaurant Nivene has always dreamed of, and she’s determined to get back to cooking as soon as possible. She plans to open for collection and delivery before the fit-out is complete.<\/p>\n

Sharing the news on Instagram, Nivene posted a video from inside the new premises with the caption: “Monday morning in our new home.”<\/p>\n

“We’re slowly getting everything organised, unpacked and trying to make the place feel like Cairo 2 Cork,” she wrote.<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely not as beautiful as I dream it will be yet. But here’s the thing, I’m itching to get back into the kitchen and start cooking for you all again.”<\/p>\n

She asked followers whether they would support the business before everything looked “perfect”, and the answer was a resounding yes.<\/p>\n

Messages of congratulations flooded the comments section, with fellow Cork food businesses among the first to welcome Cairo 2 Cork to the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

Panda Asian Street Food wrote: “Ahhh new neighbours! Delighted for ye, huge congrats and best of luck.” Cafe Moly Roastery added: “Welcome to the parish!”<\/p>\n

The new location comes after a wave of community support and hundreds of donations to a GoFundMe appeal.<\/p>\n

Last month, Cairo 2 Cork was among several traders who had to leave the Fifth Quarter outside Paul Street<\/a> shopping after planning issues brought the popular food truck plaza to an end.<\/p>\n

Nivene was left with mounting bills while still covering supplier costs, insurance, rent and other business expenses.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of donations poured into the GoFundMe fundraiser<\/a> as customers, local businesses and supporters shared the campaign widely and posted messages of encouragement.<\/p>\n
