\n The statue, named Wanderlust, was part of the Scotties in the City<\/a>\u00a0art trail and sat outside Buchanan Bus Station<\/a>\u00a0before it was removed for repairs.\n<\/p>\n

\n Sponsored by Citylink<\/a> and designed by artist Charlotte Brayley, Wanderlust is one of 40 large sculptures featured in the trail, which raises funds for cancer support charity Maggie\u2019s.\n<\/p>\n

\n The artwork\u2019s fibreglass shell was\u00a0badly damaged, with chunks torn from its base.\n<\/p>\n

\n Maggie\u2019s<\/a> has now launched a fundraiser<\/a> to cover repair costs.\n<\/p>\n

\n The charity said: “Thousands of people have visited Scotties in the City, discovering their favourite sculptures, exploring the city and helping to raise funds for Maggie’s.\n<\/p>\n

\n “Sadly, one of our much\u2011loved Scottie sculptures, Wanderlust, has been removed from the trail following significant damage.\n<\/p>\n

\n “While we’re disappointed to lose such a special sculpture, our focus remains on the people who rely on Maggie’s every day.\n<\/p>\n

\n “Every penny raised through Scotties in the City helps Maggie’s provide free cancer support for anyone who needs it.\n<\/p>\n

\n “From expert psychological support and practical advice,\u00a0to a welcoming place to talk, Maggie’s helps people and their families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments.\n<\/p>\n

\n “The damage to Wanderlust means we will now incur unexpected costs in our efforts to repair her.\n<\/p>\n

\n “We’re asking our community to help ensure that this setback doesn’t affect our trail and fundraising efforts.\n<\/p>\n

\n “If you’ve enjoyed the trail, taken a photo with a Scottie, followed the project online, or simply believe that nobody should face cancer alone, please consider making a donation today to help us cover the costs of our repairs to Wanderlust.\n<\/p>\n

\n “Together, we can turn around this unfortunate situation and get Wanderlust back on the streets of Glasgow and, even more importantly, to auction!”\n<\/p>\n

\n The charity has said that police are investigating the vandalism.\n<\/p>\n

\n Mark Cooper, director of income generation at Maggie\u2019s, said: “It is very sad to see our sculpture damaged.\n<\/p>\n

\n “It is such a disappointment for the artist, the sculpture\u2019s sponsor Citylink, and for the wider public who have really taken the Scotties to their heart.\n<\/p>\n

\n “We do hope to be able to repair Wanderlust but of course, this comes with a cost.\n<\/p>\n

\n “We’re hopeful that, once again, the public will come together and help ensure the cost of repairs are covered so every penny raised from the auction of the Scottie sculptures goes towards supporting people facing a cancer diagnosis.”\n<\/p>\n

\n If Wanderlust cannot be repaired in time to rejoin the trail, the charity hopes it can be displayed at the \u2018farewell weekend\u2019 at Glasgow\u2019s Bridgeton Bus Garage before being auctioned in September.\n<\/p>\n

\n Scotties in the City<\/a>\u00a0launched on June 18 and is running for eight weeks.\n<\/p>\n

\n The trail was officially opened by broadcaster and Maggie\u2019s honorary patron Kirsty Wark<\/a>, alongside Glasgow\u2019s Lord Provost, Jacqueline McLaren<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

\n The trail features 40 large, artist\u2011designed, 50kg Scottie dog sculptures in locations across the city, including the Riverside Museum<\/a>, Science Centre<\/a>, Kibble Palace<\/a>, Milngavie, and Giffnock.\n<\/p>\n

\n Police Scotland<\/a>\u00a0has been approached for comment.\n<\/p>\n
