RT\u00c9 has been encouraged to continue reforms as the latest annual report is published.<\/p>\n
The national broadcaster is continuing to battle to manage costs as revenue from the TV licence continues to fall.<\/p>\n
The 2025 annual report states that RT\u00c9 recorded a surplus of \u20ac22.5 million, an increase from the 2024 figure of \u20ac5.5 million.<\/p>\n
Licence fee income in 2025 was \u20ac183.5 million, an increase of five per cent compared to 2024 (\u20ac174.3 million).<\/p>\n
The wages paid to the top earners were also revealed, including director general Kevin Bakhurst (\u20ac339,538), deputy director general Adrian Lynch \u2013 (\u20ac293,627), director of operations, technology & transformation Richard Waghorn (\u20ac291,160), managing director of news and current affairs Deirdre McCarthy (\u20ac285,063), director of finance Mari Hurley (\u20ac276,344) and director of human resources Eimear Cusack (\u20ac274,721).<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, cost of the exit of 67 members of staff in 2025 under a voluntary exit programme was \u20ac8.5 million.<\/p>\n
The Government is currently supporting RT\u00c9 with a \u20ac725 million package from licence fee receipts and a direct top-up from the Exchequer.<\/p>\n
Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Services, Reform and Digitalisation Jack Chambers said he welcomed the transparency provided in the latest report, particularly around salaries.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to see continued reforms, efficiencies, and sustainability around the wider reorganisation of RT\u00c9, so it\u2019s right-sized for the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s in that context in which government continues to evaluate RT\u00c9 with the multi-year agreement which we\u2019ve made, and that senior leadership team need to continue to drive that reform and efficiency agenda, and that\u2019s what the government\u2019s focus is to ensure that they deliver across the direction that\u2019s been given in that context.\u201d<\/p>\n
Taoiseach Michael Martin made a reference to debates on RT\u00c9 seeming to be \u201cendless\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the wages should be reasonable, sustainable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
