{"id":563516,"date":"2026-07-23T01:43:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T01:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/563516\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T01:43:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T01:43:20","slug":"kerry-has-7th-highest-rate-of-vacant-homes-in-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/563516\/","title":{"rendered":"Kerry has 7th highest rate of vacant homes in Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost 7% of the total housing stock in Kerry is vacant.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geodirectory.ie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GeoDirectory Residential Buildings Report<\/a> for the second quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The data prepared by EY shows Kerry now has the seventh highest percentage of vacant homes in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The 6.9% of Kerry homes lying vacant is almost double the national average, and a further 5.9% of the total housing stock is made up of holiday homes.<\/p>\n<p>This leaves the total percentage of occupied residences in the county at 87.2%, the fourth lowest rate in Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry also has the sixth most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiokerry.ie\/news\/derelict\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">derelict<\/a> address points with 5.7% of the total national total.<\/p>\n<p>However according to the report there was 668 new homes in the county added to their register, a 14.8% increase on the year before.<\/p>\n<p>There was a further 771 buildings under construction as of May, along with 642 housing commencements issued.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry also saw 962 residential property transactions during the second quarter of this year, 9.3% of which were new homes.<\/p>\n<p>The average price of a home in the county now stands at \u20ac320,374, a 6.2% increase on the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Properties in the V93 Eircode in Killarney were the most expensive in Kerry with an average of \u20ac368,966.<\/p>\n<p>The V23 Eircode area for Cahersiveen had the cheapest average in the county at \u20ac264,957.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Almost 7% of the total housing stock in Kerry is vacant.
