{"id":563688,"date":"2026-07-23T04:11:31","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T04:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/563688\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T04:11:31","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T04:11:31","slug":"ireland-slammed-by-all-blacks-media-after-hammering-with-omahony-singled-out-for-criticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/563688\/","title":{"rendered":"Ireland slammed by All Blacks media after hammering with O&#8217;Mahony singled out for criticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple former All Blacks have chastised Ireland, including calling out Peter O\u2019Mahony, after their win over Andy Farrell\u2019s side last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the third and final test of this summer\u2019s Nations Championship fixtures, Ireland had a poor first-half performance en route to a 40-21 hiding from the All Blacks in Eden Park, the fourth game in a row Farrell\u2019s side have lost to New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The defeat has been cause for celebration among those in New Zealand, who since Ireland\u2019s first win over the All Blacks in 2016 have relished the opportunities to put the side down a peg or two when they can.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/3514433.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1793814\"  \/>Hugo Keenan of Ireland is tackled by Cam Roigard of New Zealand. Pic: Brendan Moran\/Sportsfile<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first to relish the victory was former All Black Murray Mexted, who was on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2qbgZpUQNnE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">DSPN podcast<\/a> with Martin Devlin, who felt that Ireland unwarrantedly fancied themselves heading into the game. \u2018Then the third game, well, of course, this is an Irish team that really rate themselves big time in the global game, and I think they overrate themselves a bit actually, to be frank. And that was probably exposed on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Are they as good as they were two or three years ago? I don\u2019t think so. Pic: Brendan Moran\/Sportsfile<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next one to take a shot was Justin Marshall, who took aim at <a href=\"https:\/\/extra.ie\/2026\/07\/18\/the-lineout\/peter-omahony-referee-ireland-loss\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peter O\u2019Mahony<\/a> and the Virgin Media punditry team for their verdict on the refereeing of Nic Berry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">O\u2019Mahony in particular felt that Berry had a poor game, not allowing enough competition in the breakdown for both sides, and felt that the TMO came to the wrong decision in both Luke Jacobson\u2019s bunker review and Quinn Tupaea\u2019s deliberate knock-on not being a yellow card.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, despite O\u2019Mahony reiterating that he felt the refereeing was poor for both sides, Marshall still fired a shot for the \u2018whingy\u2019 Irish.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/3514524.jpg\" alt=\"Ireland Peter O'Mahony\" class=\"wp-image-1793830\"  \/>Joe McCarthy, left, and Stuart McCloskey of Ireland appeal to referee Nic Berry. Pic: Brendan Moran\/Sportsfile<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018They\u2019ve also turned into a pack of whingers, to be honest,\u2019 Marshall said on The Good, The Bad, and The Rugby: Australia &amp; New Zealand. \u2018They feel like their performance wasn\u2019t up to standard, but it\u2019s everyone else\u2019s fault.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018They\u2019ve been blaming a couple of decisions within the game, going \u201cwe were ripped off, the All Blacks cheated, they always get the favourable decisions at Eden Park, there was this and that\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Mate, we didn\u2019t make you drop the ball f*****g 15 times. Pic: Michael Bradley \/ AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continued: \u2018They were falling off tackles like that, but they go straight towards\u00a0Quinn Tupaea\u00a0should have been a yellow card, and Jacobson should have been red.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018You know what guys?
