Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown<\/a> has opened up on a storyline she always hoped would come to fruition for her character Dee-Dee Bailey. Dee-Dee left the ITV soap last year<\/a> in emotional scenes after dumping her boyfriend Ollie Driscoll and taking a job in Singapore. <\/p>\n

Speaking about her character’s time on the soap, Channique admitted to having Dee-Dee flirt with a certain character in scenes in an attempt to influence her storylines.<\/p>\n

“I had this massive thing where I would always flirt with DS [Lisa] Swain because obviously I knew she would be getting with Carla [Connor],” Channique said on the Tis Yourself<\/a> podcast.<\/p>\n

“I just wanted to throw the fans off. So I was like, I’m going to flirt with DS Swain. I don’t know, I was like, that just makes it interesting.”<\/p>\n

She continued: “You never know what the Corrie writers are gonna do, right, if they see something they like, so I was like, imagine they really like it and they made Dee-Dee gay.<\/p>\n

“I was like, where’s the thing that me as an actor can play with in this?”<\/p>\n

Confirming her departure from the soap, Channique spoke to Digital Spy at the time about her decision to quit her role<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I made the decision in spring – and it wasn’t a rash choice,” she said. “I really took a couple of months from being offered my next year contract to actually even respond. I felt really torn, but I really just had the sense that it felt like the time.<\/p>\n

“I feel like I’ve been so privileged, and I’ve got to tell some great stories, and it’s been so wonderful. And obviously I’m very led by my faith as well. So I just really took my time over it and prayed into it.” <\/p>\n

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX<\/a>.<\/p>\n
