Swatch<\/a> has absolutely dominated the watch world this year. If the hype around the Swatch x Audemars Piguet collaboration timepiece, the Royal Pop<\/a>, wasn’t enough for fans, then the brand new limited-edition MoonSwatch made with 18-carat gold<\/a> certainly fills the void.<\/p>\n

Some queued for days before the Royal Pop’s release, and it seems like Swatch wanted to avoid the chaos this time, instead opting for a lottery system. However, that didn’t calm the frenzy that comes when a coveted, limited Swatch drops.<\/p>\n

Swatch set up an application form for the watch, which prompted provisional buyers to fill out a questionnaire of 32 open-ended and multiple-choice questions about Omega’s history and heritage, as well as some tougher, more rogue ones. The 2 hour, 15 minute window in which you can complete the application after starting it may sound short on paper, but reports from people trying to do it suggest that it might’ve still been a pretty tough time.<\/p>\n

Many users took to Reddit, especially on the r\/Swatch community, to voice their frustration at the site crashing<\/a> when they tried to apply<\/a>, which some thought might be an attempted hacking or a maintenance issue. But the problem was much simpler than that: the website simply couldn’t handle the sheer number of people trying to log on as soon as the application form opened.<\/p>\n

Every MoonSwatch release so far has generated a lot of buzz, but there’s something particularly enthralling about one limited to just 1,969 models and the 11 grams of 18-carat Omega Moonshine Gold being used in its construction. If the original MoonSwatches gave Omega and Swatch fans an accessible taste of luxury, this one’s a much bigger serving.
