A vehicle was driven through a stone wall during a Garda pursuit in Cobh<\/a>, causing serious damage. The crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning after Gardai responded to reports of a stolen car.<\/p>\n Footage of the incident, seen by CorkBeo, shows a vehicle swerving before losing control and crashing straight through the wall on the edge of the Cluain Ard housing estate.<\/p>\n The impact severely bent a streetlight, destroyed a section of the wall, and damaged a vehicle parked on the other side. Large stones were scattered across the surrounding area, and smoke could be seen coming from the crashed vehicle after the impact.<\/p>\n Shortly after the crash, both the driver and Garda\u00ed exited their vehicles before the driver fled with Garda\u00ed in pursuit. The crash caused thousands of euros’ worth of damage to both cars and the wall, and it’s understood that Garda\u00ed <\/a>were pursuing the car after suspecting the occupants of joyriding.<\/p>\n A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo that officers were responding after reports of a stolen vehicle. A spokesperson said: “Garda\u00ed responded to reports of a stolen vehicle in Cobh, Co. Cork on 21st July 2026.<\/p>\n “During the course of this incident, the stolen vehicle collided with a wall, causing significant damage to a street light and a parked car. Investigations are ongoing.”<\/p>\n Cobh Councillor Dominic Finn said: \u201cI live in Cluain Ard, where the crash happened, and it was brought to my attention on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n “I\u2019ve seen the video, and it was absolutely horrendous. If that was during the day, someone could have been killed instantly with the severity of the impact. I think it’s horrendous that it’s happening in our neighbourhood in this day and age.<\/p>\n \u201cI had a motion before the Cobh Municipal District asking to engage with Garda\u00ed to have more of a presence in Cobh. Last month, I had the chance to meet with the Minister for Justice, and I asked him to do everything he could on the matter.<\/p>\n \u201cJoyriding is not just an issue in Cobh; it\u2019s practically nationwide. We need more Garda\u00ed right across every town so people can feel safe in their own communities”.<\/p>\n
