<\/p>\nThe Woman in the Wall, a BBC series starring Ruth Wilson (Down Cemetery Road, Luther), is streaming right now on Netflix in the UK \u2013 and you won’t want to miss out on the show’s brilliant, layered, and twisty storytelling. <\/p>\n
Set in the fictional Irish town of Kilkinure, the Gothic psychological thriller follows Lorna Brady (Wilson), who’s shocked to discover the body of a woman in her house, having no idea who she was or how the body got there. To further complicate things, Lorna suffers from extreme bouts of sleepwalking, leaving her with gaps in her memory. <\/p>\n
When Lorna meets Detective Colman Akande (played by Bad Sisters star Daryl McCormack), who has travelled from Dublin in search of answers relating to another crime, the pair end up somewhat working together to piece together events that could be linked. <\/p>\n

(Here, the fictional drama draws inspiration from the Magdalene laundries.) Her daughter Agnes was born while she was there, only to be taken from her. Now an adult, Lorna is still searching for answers about what happened to her child. <\/p>\n Teasing the plot and direction of The Woman in the Wall, writer and creator Joe Murtagh explained the woman whose body is found in Lorna’s home “may have been able to tell her what happened to the daughter she gave birth to in a Mother and Baby Home 30 years ago, and whom she was torn away from”. <\/p>\n Lorna then “decides to conceal the body to give herself enough time to start a sort of amateur investigation to find out what happened to her daughter and if she’s in any way responsible for this person’s murder or not”, he added. <\/p>\n BBC<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Ruth Wilson said of her character: “Lorna is unsure whether or not she is responsible for the death of this woman. As she attempts to retrace her steps and remember the events of the night before, she becomes an amateur investigator, while also being the number one suspect. This kicks off a chain of events that force the whole community in Kilkinure to reckon with the sins of their past.”<\/p>\n Wilson added of the show: “I was sent the pilot a number of years ago now and thought it had real potential. Joe Murtagh had written a script that was truly unique. I thought it was swimming in something vital, dramatising a subject matter that demands attention but through the lens of genre.
