A MAN HAS been charged with murder after an assault victim died in hospital following an attack in Belfast.<\/p>\n
The PSNI today launched a murder investigation after Paul Mackin Junior (44) died following an assault in north Belfast.<\/p>\n
Shortly before 6pm on Monday, 20 July, the PSNI received a report of an assault at a residential property in the Duncairn Parade area.<\/p>\n
Officers attended the scene, alongside personnel from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and Paul Mackin was taken to hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Three men \u2013 aged 40, 41 and 32 \u2013 were arrested a short time later on suspicion of attempted murder.<\/p>\n
Mackin, from the north Belfast area, died in hospital on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old man, who remained in custody, was earlier today arrested on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n
He has since been charged and will appear before Belfast Magistrates\u2019 Court tomorrow.<\/p>\n
He has been charged with murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, and false imprisonment.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the other two men who were arrested, aged 32 40, have since been released unconditionally.<\/p>\n
Earlier today, a PSNI spokesperson said \u201cour thoughts are with Paul\u2019s family at this incredibly difficult time\u201d.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson called for the public to \u201cavoid speculation on the circumstances around this matter, which is upsetting for the family and friends of Mackin, and could have a detrimental impact on criminal justice proceedings\u201d.<\/p>\n
The PSNI also appealed to anyone who believes they may have information which could assist with their investigation to contact detectives.<\/p>\n
