\n\tThe Today show has implemented \u201cstricter security protocols\u201d following an incident where co-host Craig Melvin was confronted on-set by an intruder<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an email to publicists Thursday, Today producers said that, effective immediately \u201cin light of recent events,\u201d there would be a cap on how many people a Today show guest can bring into the studio.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMoving forward,\u00a0there will be a maximum of two (2) people in the studio per guest.\u00a0This includes anyone accompanying the guest \u2013 PR representatives, hair\/makeup, social media, photographers, stylists, studio representatives, or any other support personnel,\u201d Today producers wrote (via Variety<\/a>). \u201cWe\u2019ll defer to you on who those two individuals should be, but there will be\u00a0no exceptions or additional personnel permitted in the studio\u00a0during the interview.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe move to limit in-studio guests comes a week after a man later identified as Andrew Truelove allegedly snuck past a security guard on the\u00a0Today\u00a0show set and made his way toward the co-hosts in search of\u00a0Today\u2019s Al Roker, who was not on-screen at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tTruelove, who has a criminal history as well as mental health issues, instead approached Melvin and hurled a racial slur at the co-host before he was detained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou may have heard that unfortunately an intruder made his way into an unauthorized area here at Studio 1A,\u201d Melvin told the Today audience the next day<\/a>. \u201cThankfully he was apprehended quickly, he was placed under arrest, we are cooperating fully with NYPD as they investigate the matter, and we are just very happy that everyone is safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe NYPD arrested Truelove soon after and charged him with three felonies \u2014 hate crime, burglary; hate crime, menacing; and hate crime, criminal trespass \u2014 as well as harassment. An NBC security guard was reportedly fired following the incident.<\/p>\n
