Sir, \u2013 When Irish Water (now Uisce \u00c9ireann) raised the issue of water conservation a decade ago I determined to react positively. I fitted a water butt; I reduced the number of showers I took weekly. <\/p>\n
I even purchased a shower head that advertised using two-thirds the volume of normal heads. This along with a number of smaller issues all designed to conserve water. I also paid my water charges.<\/p>\n
At the same time Irish Water, without any prior discussion, fitted a water meter on my supply main. This means that as of today Uisce \u00c9ireann can check if my water usage is excessive. However, provided I can prove that that excessive usage is because I have decided to shower twice a day rather than keep my bee-friendly plants alive, I have no reason to worry. \u2013 Yours, etc,<\/p>\n
