Noah Lyles ran a world-leading 9.79 seconds as he claimed an impressive victory in the 100m at the US athletics championships.<\/p>\n

He also equalled his personal best, which he set in winning gold<\/a> at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, with the run at the Icahn Stadium in New York City.<\/p>\n

The previous best 100m in 2026 was the 9.82 set by Jamaica’s Oblique Seville in June.<\/p>\n

“I think I made that ‘I’m still the world’s fastest man’ statement,” said Lyles.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old American finished ahead of Ronnie Baker in second and third-placed Kenny Bednarek, who were both given a time of 9.88, while former world champion Christian Coleman was fourth in 9.93.<\/p>\n

“Just because it is an off year doesn’t mean that I plan to run slow,” added Lyles, referring to there being no Olympics or World Championships this year. <\/p>\n

“This is me being me and being me is dominant, being consistent.”<\/p>\n

Sha’Carri Richardson, the 2023 world champion, won the women’s 100m as she clocked 10.77.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old equalled her best time of the season as Kayla White finished second with 10.90 and Tamari Davis third in 11.00.<\/p>\n

“It just feels phenomenal to be back in a better place, just healthy mentally, physically and emotionally,” said Richardson, who has had troubles off the track.<\/a><\/p>\n
