{"id":567339,"date":"2026-07-25T09:24:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T09:24:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/567339\/"},"modified":"2026-07-25T09:24:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T09:24:08","slug":"firefighters-tackling-slievenamon-blaze-for-sixth-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/567339\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighters tackling Slievenamon blaze for sixth day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fire services personnel in Co Tipperary are tackling blazes at Slievenamon for a sixth day.<\/p>\n<p>Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service said yesterday was a &#8220;tough evening&#8221; as there were a lot of flare-ups.<\/p>\n<p>Acting Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer Carol Kennedy explained there were areas already extinguished or which were under control but had started up again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This morning we are going to assess it again. The cloud has come down again which has helped us, the temperature drop overnight and the fog has helped calm some of those hotspots down,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>She added: &#8220;We are getting aerial support again today and we&#8217;ve more men on the ground.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She said that the message to the public remains the same &#8211; stay away from the area if at all possible and to check in on anyone they feel may be vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>A view of the fires earlier this week at Slievenamon<\/p>\n<p alt=\"'Significant wildfire' remains active on Slievenamon - Coillte\" data-embed=\"comcast-player\" data-guid=\"epic-mpx-manual-35403\" data-id=\"3BP_cprgTOTg\" data-thumbnail=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/images\/0024bf6a-900.jpg\">\n<p>She added that the fire service has done a house-to-house leaflet drop and talk aided by the civil defence, and remain available to answer any questions.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the advice for residents living downwind of the blaze is to keep windows and doors closed where smoke is present.<\/p>\n<p>Children, older people, pregnant women and those with respiratory or heart conditions are being urged to take extra precautions to minimise exposure to smoke.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers and animal owners are also being encouraged to monitor livestock and, where possible, move animals away from smoke-affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t see a risk to property at the moment,&#8221; Ms Kennedy added.<\/p>\n<p>The public is also being asked to avoid all non-essential travel to the area to allow emergency vehicles access.<\/p>\n<p>Helicopter to carry out survey of Glencree gorse fire<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A view of the gorse fire in Glencree, Co Wicklow Credit Wicklow Fire Service\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/0024c0ea-614.jpg\"\/><br \/>\nA view of the gorse fire on the horizon in Glencree this morning (Pic: Wicklow Fire Service)<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is continuing to assess the situation at a gorse fire in Glencree in Co Wicklow.<\/p>\n<p>Wicklow County Council said a helicopter is due to arrive on site this morning to carry out a survey of the area.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the council said: &#8220;Some areas of peaty soil continue to smoulder, with strong winds increasing the risk of reignition and fire spread.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Current conditions are cloudy, with south-westerly winds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The situation continues to be monitored closely.
