Ann Droid, the new lightly sci-fi-themed sitcom<\/a> starring The Royle Family and Downton Abbey icon Sue Johnston, is doing very well after it aired last week, currently sitting in second place on BBC iPlayer’s top 10.<\/p>\n

If you fancy seeing Johnston in something a bit grim and grittier, there’s Witness Number 3, a four-part thriller that also stars EastEnders and Shetland actor Nina Toussaint-White.<\/p>\n

The show follows single mum Jodie who witnesses a murder and becomes the target of a criminal gang who want to keep her silent.<\/p>\n

Originally released in 2022, it is still available on 5’s streaming service where it can be streamed for free with ads.<\/p>\n

It’s also available to watch with a Netflix subscription if you’d prefer to stream it there.<\/p>\n

When the show premiered four years ago, it received some pretty good reviews.<\/p>\n

The Telegraph<\/a> stated:” Creative directing, a strong cast and excellent writing can’t mask the budget constraints, but this is a tense and convincing crime drama.”<\/p>\n

“If this is why Neighbours was cancelled, Channel 5 is on to something”, iNews<\/a> wrote at the time, while Radio Times<\/a>‘ review praised Nina Toussant-White as the standout star.<\/p>\n

The Times<\/a> described it as “grimly absorbing drama” that was “extremely well told”.<\/p>\n

If you want to see Johnston in more serious work, BBC iPlayer and Sky\/NOW have all of the police procedural Waking the Dead, while U has most of the episodes. There’s also the film Help, set in a care home with Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham, available on Channel 4.<\/p>\n

Witness Number 3 is available to stream on both 5’s free with ads streaming service and with a Netflix subscription.<\/p>\n
