GARDA\u00cd ARE APPEALING for witnesses following a number of incidents of theft and criminal damage to motor vehicles which were parked on Barrack street in Cahir, Co Tipperary in the early hours of Saturday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The incidents are believed to have taken place between 12.30 and 1.30am.<\/p>\n
It is also believed that some of the vehicles broken into are owned by members of the fire brigade currently fighting wildfires on Slievenamon mountain.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Speaking to The Journal, Tipperary councillor Andy Moloney said the incident was \u201cvery disappointing\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThese men have spent the past week working very hard to fight fires locally in Slievenamon, and for someone to break into their vehicles like this is a low blow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think most people in Cahir are upset over [the incident] because they see what the fire service is doing over the past week and over the weekend to fight these fires which are still ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe locals appreciate those efforts and for them to be repaid like this, it is just shocking,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed say that a technical examination of the scene has been conducted.<\/p>\n
Any road users who were travelling near Barrack Street, Cahir between 12.30am and 1.30am on Saturday 25 July 2026 and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
