\n\tAs it turns out, a sequel to \u201cDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves\u201d was written. But whether fans will ever get to see it produced for the big screen remains to be seen due to \u201cfinancial\u201d reasons.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe actually wrote a sequel to \u2018Dungeons & Dragons.\u2019 We were hired to write it,\u201d co-director and writer Jonathan Goldstein<\/a> told ScreenRant<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They\u2019re expensive movies to make, but it\u2019d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDirected by frequent collaborators Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the 2023 release \u201cDungeons & Dragons\u201d was met with enthusiastic praise, currently holding a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 92% audience score. However, the likelihood of any sequels being made became unlikely after the film underwhelmed at the box office, grossing $205.46 worldwide on an estimated $150 million production budget (shared between Paramount and Hasbro\u2019s subsidiary Entertainment One).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film, starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Reg\u00e9-Jean Page, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith and Sophia Lillis, follows an unlikely band of heroes who must work together to find a lost relic.<\/p>\n

\n\tGrant, who played the villainous con artist Forge, has previously spoken out about the film\u2019s box office performance. Back in 2024, he told Vanity Fair<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s the biggest mystery to me \u2014 why didn\u2019t anyone do market research before? I think that\u2019s what went wrong: basically, people just thought, I don\u2019t want to see a film about this game. Why had no one asked the public?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGoldstein and Daley are known for directing comedies like 2015\u2019s \u201cVacation\u201d and 2018\u2019s \u201cGame Night.\u201d Next up, they are set to direct \u201cRenegades,\u201d an action thriller based on a short story by Will Simmons. The two are also developing the next \u201cStar Trek\u201d film for Paramount.<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore \u201cHonor Among Thieves,\u201d the first live-action \u201cDungeons & Dragon\u201d film released back in 2000, but was met with poor reviews, grossing $33 million worldwide on a $45 million budget.
