Grocery prices rose by almost 4.2% in the four weeks to mid-June, the slowest rate of increase since February 2025.<\/p>\n
New data from Worldpanel by Numerator puts grocery price inflation at 4.16% in the four weeks to 12th June.<\/p>\n
At the same time consumer spending on groceries rose by 6.3% – with hotter weather fuelling higher spending on suncream and deodorant.<\/p>\n
Branded goods enjoyed the biggest rise in sales, up 10.6% or \u20ac173m in the period. They made up 49% of sales value in the period.<\/p>\n
Sales of own label goods rose by 3.4% – or \u20ac58m – while sales of premium ranges rose by 9.8%.<\/p>\n
Dunnes Stores continued to hold the biggest share of the grocery market, accounting for 23.7% of sales.<\/p>\n
That compared to a 23.3% share in mid-June 2025, and came as the chain enjoyed sales growth of 6.5% year-on-year.<\/p>\n
Tesco had the second biggest market share at 23.5%, up 0.3 percentage points on last year as its sales grew 6.4% on June 2025.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Supervalu recorded a market share of 19.6%, down on the 20.2% stake a year earlier. That was a result of its sales growing by 1.9%, well below the total market average.<\/p>\n
Aldi also saw its market share slip, from 12% to 11.1%, as its sales fell by 3% year-on-year.<\/p>\n
However Lidl enjoyed the biggest sales increase of all major grocery brands, with its sales up 10.8% compared to mid-June 2025.<\/p>\n
