They call themselves a two\u2011man band. Mosey & Co. is the creation of Sanzida Mahmood Nandita and her bandmate, Shuvendu Das Shuvo \u2014 two musicians who share the stage and the spotlight, bonded by a shared sense of melancholy.<\/p>\n
They often describe themselves as melancholy mates and almost considered it as their band\u2019s name, but it was the word Mosey, meaning to walk leisurely, to do something slowly, that resonated with them and carries their story.<\/p>\n
\u201cNeither of us works under heavy pressure. We do things slowly. So, it made sense,\u201d Nandita explains. The & Co. reflects their openness. \u201cWe are Mosey, and along with our friends, family, fans, and fellow musicians\u2014that is the Co.,\u201d says Shuvo.<\/p>\n
What drew them together was their shared philosophy. Life, they believe, is not only happiness but waves of joy and sadness.<\/p>\n

For Nandita, even a happy melody feels more whole when tinged with melancholy. Yin and yang, light and dark, day and night \u2014 together they form the whole. That philosophy shapes their music.<\/p>\n
\u201cLife is not just joy. It is joy, then a little sadness, then joy again, like waves. We celebrate that sadness, that melancholy, and you could say that we are a bit indulgent in sorrow,\u201d says Nandita, describing how they find sadness even in beauty, whether gazing at the sea, the mountains, or feeling the spring breeze.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then Shuvo\u2019s chords reflect it too: suddenly a chord comes that\u2019s quite striking; maybe we\u2019re talking about joy, but behind that joy there\u2019s hidden sadness. I think this is something that exists in everyone; some acknowledge it, some don\u2019t,\u201d she says. They celebrate melancholy, even embrace a touch of sorrow\u2011loving.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd in terms of melody, even when I\u2019m playing a happy tune, when I add that touch of melancholy in the notations and resolve it finally into the proper melody, it makes more sense. It becomes more wholesome,\u201d adds Shuvo.<\/p>\n
Listeners have found solace in their music. And though they never set out to heal, listeners often tell them their songs bring calm.<\/p>\n
One fan wrote, \u201cI\u2019m a chronic anxiety patient; nothing can really calm me down, but when I listen to your songs, it really soothes me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their ultimate motive is to help the depressed with music therapy, but that\u2019s at a later stage, still a research area for them.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, when someone shared how their ninety\u2011five\u2011year\u2011old mother with Alzheimer\u2019s smiled and recalled her youth when hearing Mosey & Co.\u2019s songs, she relates to her youthful days, smiles, tells stories. I become emotional even on stage when I tell these stories; sometimes I cry. These little stories are very close to our hearts, and we feel lucky and blessed that music can connect us to people in this way. It feels like a big reward,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Shuvo adds, \u201cAnd our fan base grew completely organically. We\u2019ve never boosted any of our songs, never even pushed them to friends. Yet, we have a fan base, thankfully very close to us. That\u2019s a big achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n
Their YouTube channel began with covers \u2014 songs from their mothers\u2019 voices, old classics re\u2011imagined. That\u2019s how listeners first fell in love. But originals were always the plan. Now, five or six originals are in progress, with hopes to release within the year.<\/p>\n
