En Carta Diagnostics, a startup developing molecular diagnostics for at-home use<\/a>, has secured \u20ac5 million (approximately $5.8 million) in a first closing of financing. The funds will be used to advance regulatory certification in Europe and the US, scale industrialization, and launch commercial products starting with early Lyme disease detection.<\/p>\n

The financing includes \u20ac3 million in equity led by Blue Forest Ventures, with participation from Ring Capital, CentraleSup\u00e9lec Venture, 50 Partners Health, and a group of business angels. An additional \u20ac2 million in non-dilutive funding was provided by Bpifrance and other partners.<\/p>\n

In January 2026, the company received Breakthrough Device Designation<\/a> from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its EC Pocket Lyme test for early detection of Borrelia bacteria, which causes Lyme disease. This status provides an accelerated regulatory pathway to the US market. En Carta Diagnostics is currently conducting clinical trials for its flagship product in Boston and Bialystock, Poland.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s technology is a rapid point-of-need molecular diagnostic platform that uses aptamers to bind with high affinity and specificity to a predetermined target. The system is designed to deliver results in 30 minutes in an affordable cassette format. Following the Lyme disease launch, the company plans to introduce tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)<\/a>, including chlamydia and gonorrhea.<\/p>\n

En Carta Diagnostics has established a \u20ac13 million commercial partnership with AAZ to market rapid molecular tests for STIs<\/a> in Europe. The company also partnered with Circum Medical for high-volume manufacturing of the hardware components.<\/p>\n

Our next milestone is getting our two products, a rapid molecular diagnostic for Borrelia, the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease, and an STI screening test, into the hands of patients and clinicians across Europe and the US. This first closing brings us closer to our mission of transforming access to testing,\u201d says Guillaume Horreard, co-founder and CEO, En Carta Diagnostics, in a release.<\/p>\n

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease<\/a> is the most prevalent vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere, with cases increasing 22.5% annually. Existing diagnostic tools often cannot detect the infection until weeks after a tick bite, which is when clinicians and patients need answers most, according to the company.<\/p>\n

En Carta Diagnostics\u2019 technology has the potential to significantly enhance early detection and bring high-quality molecular testing closer to patients,\u201d says Max Narr, co-founder and general partner, Blue Forest Ventures, in a release.<\/p>\n
