{"id":571000,"date":"2026-07-27T20:55:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T20:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/571000\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T20:55:15","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T20:55:15","slug":"tour-de-france-final-stage-shortened-due-to-ongoing-wildfires-across-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/571000\/","title":{"rendered":"Tour de France final stage shortened due to ongoing wildfires across the country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TOUR DE FRANCE organisers have announced that they are shortening tomorrow\u2019s final stage due to the wildfires which are ravaging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejournal.ie\/france-and-spain-wildfires-7113104-Jul2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">southwest France<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes after the interior ministry said that it would be redeploying officers initially mobilised to provide security for the race to areas affected by the fire.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from organisers of the race ASO said: \u201cIn a spirit of national solidarity with the areas and communities affected, it was decided to adapt the route for the final stage from Thoiry to Paris.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 21st stage was due to last 133km and begin west of Paris in Thoiry.<\/p>\n<p>However, it will now start on the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es in Paris and take in a couple of extra laps around the famous avenue before joining the main Montmartre circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The new route will now only last 89km.<\/p>\n<p>The wildfires are loacated around the Arcachon Bay Area near Bordeaux in the Gironde region, and around Biscarrosse in the Landes.<\/p>\n<p>Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said today that the wildfires currently raging across France have burned nearly 98,000 hectares, as he described the total as a \u201chistoric record\u201d for France.<\/p>\n<p>The French defence ministry is deploying an additional 500 military personnel to help \u201cprotect people and property\u201d during the wildfires, bringing the total number of troops mobilised to 1,500.<\/p>\n<p>The troops will assist with evacuating residents from areas threatened by the fires and help safeguard homes left unattended during the emergency, the ministry said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TOUR DE FRANCE organisers have announced that they are shortening tomorrow\u2019s final stage due to the wildfires which&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":571001,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[4741,246,1814,240914,61,60,1838,82,42309,8769],"class_list":["post-571000","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-cycling","tag-environment","tag-france","tag-gironde","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-paris","tag-science","tag-tour-de-france","tag-wildfires"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/571000","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=571000"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/571000\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/571001"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=571000"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=571000"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=571000"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
