Producer David Holmes<\/a> has shared details of Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor\u2019s<\/a> final, unreleased album, and revealed some messages he got from the late musician about the record.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor died in July 2023 at the age of 56<\/a>. Since her death, she has continued to be celebrated as one of Ireland\u2019s most fearless and influential artists, both for her voice and for her willingness to speak out on political, religious and social issues.<\/p>\n

Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Holmes \u2013 who worked closely with the singer in the final few years of her life \u2013 shared insight into a new album that they were working on together called \u2018No Veteran Dies Alone\u2019.<\/p>\n

His post was shared three years after O\u2019Connor\u2019s death, and in it he shared \u201ca couple of texts I received from her while producing what would be her final album.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her messages, O\u2019Connor said \u201cNeil\u201d \u2013 potentially Irish film director Neil Jordan \u2013 was \u201chaving a shit freak over NVDA\u201d and \u201cplaying it to everyone\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m actually having a shit freak myself cus [sic] it sounds so good,\u201d she added, also saying that she wanted to make some tweaks to the recording including \u201csing a bit more harmony stuff\u201d and \u201cbalance the tracked vocals better in the first verse of the mix\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyway it\u2019s all so good\u2026 I\u2019m proud of us,\u201d she added, saying that she wanted to \u201cmake records together until one of us croaks\u201d.<\/p>\n

In another message shown in the post, sent in December 2022, O\u2019Connor messaged to discuss what she wanted an acapella \u201cintro to the album\u201d and for the album \u201cto be sequenced in chronological order in terms of when the songs were written, or recorded\u201d.<\/p>\n

In his caption, Holmes said that while he is still uncertain about whether the album \u201cwill ever see the light of day\u201d, he still regards it to be \u201ca stone cold classic\u201d and \u201ca love letter to her children and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHer songs are as real and pure as you can only imagine,\u201d he continued, also sharing some insight into how she recorded the title track.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember she once said to me [regarding] the song \u2018No Veteran Dies Alone\u2019, \u2018There\u2019s a techniquely better version to be had here but I\u2019ll never be able to give you a better performance\u2019,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a music producer or artist that\u2019s exactly what you should always be looking for. The truth. So much more to share re; all the songs and their genesis but that will come in due course. They tried to bury me but didn\u2019t know I was a seed. I believe in Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019 Connor.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the comment section, Imelda May<\/a> shared her praise for the unreleased record, writing: \u201cI\u2019ve heard it and it\u2019s truly incredible I miss her so much. I too re-read her texts sometimes and listen to her voice notes\u2026 seems crazy she\u2019s gone and yet she still feels so present. This album is important, it matters. The world needs to hear it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lauren Laverne wrote that she \u201cReally hopes this album is shared with people one day\u201d as \u201cwe need her voice now more than ever\u201d, and Pulp<\/a>\u2019s Jarvis Cocker<\/a> simply wrote: \u201cAgreed\u201d.<\/p>\n

Others to comment included Mogwai<\/a>\u2019s Stuart Braithwaite, who shared: \u201cCan\u2019t wait for this to come out David. The world needs it\u201d, and Garbage<\/a> who commented: \u201cOh this is pure gold. I had no idea there was a record in the can. What a heartbreak. What a thrill\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sinead O\u2019Connor\u2019s cause of death was revealed to be asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)<\/a>. She was laid to rest at a ceremony in the Irish town of Bray<\/a>, with Bob Geldof<\/a> and Bono<\/a> among those paying tribute at her funeral.<\/p>\n

Many figures from the music industry paid tribute to her online, including Garbage, Billy Corgan<\/a>, Michael Stipe<\/a>, Fall Out Boy<\/a>, Ice-T<\/a> and Tori Amos<\/a>, and streams of her music went up by 7.9million in the US during the week after her death<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Her last album was 2014\u2019s \u2018I\u2019m Not Bossy, I\u2019m the Boss<\/a>\u2019, and her last single was 2023\u2019s \u2018The Skye Boat Song\u2019 which she recorded for the drama series Outlander.<\/p>\n

Since her death, there has been a stage production based on her life and music open in Manchester<\/a>, and ongoing rumours of a biopic \u2013 which date back to 2023<\/a>. Variety<\/a>\u00a0claimed that the project has been in the works since 2022\u2019s Nothing Compares documentary<\/a> and would recall the life and career of the late artist.<\/p>\n

After her passing was announced in 2023, NME shared an obituary for O\u2019Connor<\/a> that celebrated her as \u201can artist of integrity, intensity and honesty\u201d.<\/p>\n
