Marvel may have quietly revealed the Avengers’ secret weapon in the fight against Doctor Doom. According to a new toy listing, Shang-Chi may be the only MCU hero powerful enough to thwart the threat in Avengers: Doomsday<\/a>\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Hasbro revealed its new Avengers: Doomsday line of Marvel Legends action figures via People. Alongside Captain America, Thor, and members of The Fantastic Four and the X-Men, the set includes a Shang-Chi action figure. What’s interesting is how Hasbro describes Shang-Chi in its press release, saying he \u201cmay be the only hero powerful enough to stop the threat the Avengers face.”<\/p>\n

Shang-Chi May Be the Key Character of Avengers: Doomsday<\/p>\n

Simu Liu debuted in the role of Shang-Chi in the 2021 Marvel Studios movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b. The glimpse of Shang-Chi fighting Gambit<\/a> (Channing Tatum) of the X-Men in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer released last week is the first time MCU fans have seen the character since then.<\/p>\n

So what could make Shang-Chi so important to standing against the threat the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men will face in Avengers: Doomsday? It’s hard to say, especially without knowing more about the movie’s plot, but it may have something to do with the Ten Rings<\/a> that are now in Shang-Chi’s possession.<\/p>\n

Are the Ten Rings the Secret to Avengers: Doomsday’s Plot?<\/p>\n

The Ten Rings are obviously powerful weapons, but even as formidable as they are, they still seem small compared to Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) and whatever threat he poses to the MCU’s multiverse. Yet, it’s important to remember that there is a lot that fans don’t yet know about the Ten Rings. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and was meant to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before that movie became Doomsday<\/a> with the Russo Bros. directing, alluded to having developed much more lore for the Rings than what appeared in Shang-Chi’s debut.<\/p>\n

“There\u2019s a lot of things purposefully withheld in the chamber for some exciting things in the future,” Cretton said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2021, after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings debuted. Perhaps the Ten Rings have a multiversal origin, or the power to save a universe from an incursion. Perhaps Gambit, in that Doomsday trailer scene, is trying to steal the rings to save the X-Men’s universe?<\/p>\n

It’s just a theory, for now. In the meantime, it’s worth noting that the idea of Shang-Chi being the clutch character of the MCU crossover isn’t quite what Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers implied to CBR while discussing Avengers: Doomsday’s most important hero<\/a> at Comic-Con.<\/p>\n

But then, there are plenty of MCU heroes to choose from. The Avengers: Doomsday ensemble cast<\/a> includes practically every hero featured in the Multiverse Saga, from The Fantastic Four to the Thunderbolts\/New Avengers, as well as some, like Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), who were supposed to have retired.<\/p>\n

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on Dec. 18.<\/p>\n
