It’s Munster’s busiest drop-off point for refuse, bulk waste and recycling – and it’s about to get a little pricier to use.<\/p>\n

Cork City Council has announced plans to introduce a new charging structure at the Tramore Valley Park Civic Amenity Site (CAS).<\/p>\n

The new fee model, which will be introduced from Monday, August 24, 2026, is ‘designed to ensure long-term sustainability of vital waste and recycling services at the site”, which handles the highest tonnage of domestic recyclables, bulk waste and hazardous materials in the Munster region, amid significant increases in waste management, disposal and processing costs.<\/p>\n

The new charging structure will replace the existing vehicle-based charging system with a simpler flat entry fee and a per-bag charge, as follows:<\/p>\n

a flat \u20ac4 charge upon entry;a \u20ac5 per bag charge for green waste;a \u20ac6 per bag charge for refuse;\u20ac4 for recycling visits \u2013 a \u20ac1 increase;\u20ac2 per recycled paint tin \u2013 a \u20ac1 increase (max 10 tins per customer per day)<\/p>\n

For example, a customer arriving in a car with four bags of green waste will pay a total of \u20ac24 to dispose of the waste – the \u20ac4 entry fee and \u20ac20 (4 x \u20ac5) in per-bag charges.<\/p>\n

The Council says the new structure aligns more closely with the charging model operated elsewhere.<\/p>\n

A Cork City Council spokesperson said: “The Civic Amenity Site at Tramore Valley Park provides an essential service for thousands of households across Cork.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, like businesses and families, local authorities are experiencing significant cost increases across every aspect of our operations \u2013 including waste management, disposal and processing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the last three years, refuse disposal costs have increased by over 10% per annum.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cost for disposing of timber is due to increase by 43% later this year and the cost for disposal of paint has risen by 20% in recent months.<\/p>\n

“The new charging structure is intended to create a fairer and more transparent system while helping to address rising operational and disposal costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese changes will support the long-term sustainability of a facility that plays a critical role in recycling, waste reduction and environmental protection in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
