Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson could be set for a huge transfer switch this summer to join a Premier League rival in the big six coming into the new season.<\/p>\n

After an already eventful summer for Jordan Henderson, the former Liverpool captain could be in line for another huge few weeks, this time on the transfer front.<\/p>\n

That’s because, according to The Athletic<\/a>, Chelsea<\/a> is working on a deal to sign the experienced midfielder from Brentford<\/a> before the window closes in the next month or so.<\/p>\n

It’s claimed that multiple Premier League<\/a> teams have been eyeing up a move for the England international, with the Bees open to a free transfer exit for Henderson<\/a> in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Chelsea has been described as a “top candidate” for the 36-year-old, as the London club looks to add some further experience and depth to Xabi Alonso<\/a>‘s roster of players.<\/p>\n

It’s a bombshell move for Henderson, who has one year remaining on his contract with Brentford, though the West London club is open to an exit with the player likely to leave on good terms with an amicable departure.<\/p>\n

Henderson made 34 appearances for his team last summer, following his return to the Premier League after leaving Ajax, where he was leaned upon as an experienced option.<\/p>\n

His potential switch to Stamford Bridge could cover a similar capacity, having played a key role in the England team over the World Cup, even with a lack of minutes on the pitch.<\/p>\n

Henderson looks likely to miss the start of the season through a freak injury he picked up during the World Cup<\/a>, after he landed awkwardly on his arm, breaking it in several places and requiring surgery.<\/p>\n

While that is a long lay-off, if he does join Chelsea, then he will return just in time for a reunion against his old team Liverpool<\/a>, alongside his manager Alonso, in early December.<\/p>\n

Henderson is well-remembered from his time at Anfield, where he made 492 appearances, scoring 33 goals and assisting 58 times, growing into a key figure in the midfield engine room.<\/p>\n

The performances were key to his time with Liverpool, but so too was his leadership, as the former Sunderland man was handed the captaincy and led the team to some of their most successful days in the Jurgen Klopp<\/a> era.<\/p>\n

There were eight trophies won by Henderson in that time, which included the long wait to lift the Premier League, which was finally ended in 2020.<\/p>\n

His career path since has taken him to Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands, before returning to England and the Premier League with Brentford.<\/p>\n
