Coronation Street explores the reality of late-stage dementia next week, when Debbie Webster chances upon another woman who’s living with the condition.<\/p>\n

Debbie is thrown into a challenging situation when she sees a lady named Sadie, who is clearly disoriented and looking for her daughter.<\/p>\n

It quickly becomes apparent that Sadie is exhibiting symptoms of dementia, albeit at a more advanced stage than Debbie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But nothing can prepare Debbie for the moment that Sadie snaps, and she realises that she’s getting a glimpse into what life could be like for her and her loved ones too\u2026<\/p>\n

“This is a heartbreaking moment for Debbie as it’s one thing to know what’s coming, but another thing to experience it in such a visceral way,” says our Weatherfield insider.<\/p>\n

“In that moment, Debbie sees how much Sadie is suffering but also what it’ll be like for her family when they are trying to care for her. The whole experience shakes Debbie to the core.”<\/p>\n

Fortunately for Sadie, her daughter is closer than Debbie realises, as it transpires that Sadie is Sienna’s mum. Sienna has already been introduced to viewers as Asha Alahan’s love interest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, when Sienna rushes over to comfort her mum, Sadie doesn’t recognise her and lashes out. This compounds Debbie’s distress because she’s terrified of forgetting who Ronnie and the rest of her family are. <\/p>\n

Although it’s a sad moment, this isn’t the first time that Sienna has had to cope with a situation like this. Later, Sienna confides in Asha about the care options for her mum and Ronnie overhears them, paving the way for him to start thinking about what he’ll do when Debbie’s condition deteriorates.<\/p>\n

“Sienna’s pain and anguish over her mum going into a care home is a bleak reminder that Ronnie will one day face a similar decision,” warns our source. <\/p>\n

“He knows Debbie’s condition is progressing and explains to James that their holiday came with a lot of challenges he didn’t expect. Now Ronnie knows he has to face the future and begin making plans for Debbie’s health and safety. That’s really tough when he’s slowly losing the woman he loves, and she knows she’s losing herself too.”<\/p>\n

As Debbie and Ronnie have frank conversations about care, Asha tries to support Sienna with her mum. But when Ronnie overhears her recalling how upset Sadie got at looking around a home, he’s filled with trepidation as he wonders how they’ll cope\u2026<\/p>\n
