{"id":571900,"date":"2026-07-28T10:27:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/571900\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T10:27:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T10:27:10","slug":"costs-set-to-rise-at-cork-citys-waste-disposal-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/571900\/","title":{"rendered":"Costs set to rise at Cork city&#8217;s waste disposal site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Costs are set to increase for waste disposal at the Tramore Valley Park Civic Amenity Site in Cork city, prompting concern that this could lead to a rise in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.echolive.ie\/corknews\/arid-41883199.html\"> illegal dumping<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The council has also said that it intends to move to a cashless system \u201cin due course\u201d, despite the fact that 43% of all transactions are currently completed with cash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">A new fee model, from Monday, August 24, is designed to \u201censure long-term sustainability of vital waste and recycling services at the site\u2026 amid significant increases in waste management, disposal, and processing costs,\u201d Cork City Council stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">The new structure will replace the existing vehicle-based charging system with a \u201csimpler\u201d flat entry fee and a per-bag charge, it added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The new charging system at Tramore Valley Park CAS, which collected 3,443 tons of waste last year, include a flat \u20ac4 charge upon entry; a \u20ac5 per bag charge for green waste; a \u20ac6 per bag charge for refuse; \u20ac4 for recycling visits \u2013 a \u20ac1 increase; and \u20ac2 per recycled paint tin \u2013 a \u20ac1 increase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A customer arriving in a car with four bags of green waste will pay a total of \u20ac24 to dispose of the waste &#8211; the \u20ac4 entry fee and \u20ac20 in per-bag charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The new structure aligns more closely with the charging model operated elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Cork City Council spokesperson said: \u201cLike businesses and families, local authorities are experiencing significant cost increases across every aspect of our operations \u2013 including waste management, disposal and processing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIn the last three years, refuse disposal costs have increased by over 10% per annum. The cost of disposing of timber is due to increase by 43% later this year and the cost for disposal of paint has risen by 20% in recent months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;The new charging structure is intended to create a fairer and more transparent system while helping to address rising operational and disposal costs,\u201d and will support the long term sustainability of the facility, the council said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They added that the budget will remain under regular review given the volatility in costs for waste processing and disposal and the continuing uncertainty around sectoral costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Social Democrat councillor Niamh O\u2019Connor said: \u201cThe increased clarity to the pricing structure is welcome.
