{"id":571986,"date":"2026-07-28T11:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T11:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/571986\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T11:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T11:40:09","slug":"decathlon-ireland-to-stop-selling-e-scooters-as-government-plans-crackdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/571986\/","title":{"rendered":"Decathlon Ireland to stop selling e-scooters as Government plans crackdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sporting goods retailer Decathlon Ireland has announced it will remove all <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/e-scooters_topic-5080244.html\">e-scooters<\/a> from sale in its Irish stores and on its Irish website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The proposed measures include raising the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/arid-41882725.html\">minimum legal age for e-scooter users from 16 to 18<\/a>, introducing mandatory helmet and high-visibility clothing requirements from August, and legislation later this year to classify e-scooters as &#8220;mechanically propelled vehicles&#8221;, requiring licensing and registration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Government has also announced plans to prohibit toy shops from selling e-scooters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;An outright ban will remain on the table,&#8221; a Government spokesperson previously said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">E-scooters being removed from sale<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Decathlon Ireland said on Tuesday that it is removing all e-scooters from sale in its Irish stores and on its Irish website, including products sold directly by the company and those offered by third-party marketplace sellers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;The delisting process is already underway with all e-scooters being removed from sale,&#8221; a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;Decathlon is also working closely with its third-party marketplace sellers to ensure all e-scooter listings are removed from the Irish platform.
