Newcastle United<\/a> are reportedly \u2018bewildered\u2019 over Arsenal\u2019s approach for captain Bruno Guimaraes<\/a>, while the Gunners\u2019 efforts to sign cover for William Saliba have got a bit more complicated.<\/p>\n

Reports suggest Arsenal<\/a> are set to bid \u00a370m for the Newcastle midfielder, although the Magpies are said to value the 28-year-old at closer to \u00a3100m.<\/p>\n

TEAMtalk revealed over the weekend that the Brazil international wants his future resolved<\/a> in the next week or so, with Bruno keen on moving to the Premier League champions.<\/p>\n

Newcastle have seen Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon leave for Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, respectively, so to lose their skipper as well would be a crushing blow.\u00a0And going by Eddie Howe\u2019s comments, he is not too confident Bruno<\/a> will stay, either.<\/p>\n

The Newcastle<\/a> manager said last week: \u201cI\u2019ve spoken to Bruno before, during and after the World Cup. We have had some really good conversations. He\u2019s just a fantastic person.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen with his future, that\u2019s for other people to speculate about. There\u2019s conversations I\u2019m not part of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Howe added: \u201cHe\u2019s captain of our club and been an unbelievable player, through the whole time we have worked together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI speak on behalf of everyone at the club, we absolutely love him and of course everyone would love him to stay. He\u2019s due back on the 31st (July), and there\u2019s nothing to say he won\u2019t be back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruno still has two years left on his deal at St James\u2019 Park but whether he plays for Newcastle next season remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

Newcastle refuse to be \u2018bullied\u2019 as Arsenal eye Bruno Guimaraes deal<\/p>\n

There may be some cause for optimism for Newcastle fans following an update from The Athletic<\/a>, though.\u00a0Newcastle will reportedly \u2018not be bullied\u2019 into lowering their demands, Bruno is not for sale and they will not welcome any offers for him.<\/p>\n

The Magpies are \u2018bewildered\u2019 with Arsenal\u2019s approach, which allegedly has been played out through agents, no direct offer has been submitted, and there haven\u2019t been any club-to-club talks.<\/p>\n

The article outlines how there is \u2018belief\u2019 on Tyneside that Arsenal are unlikely to get close to Newcastle\u2019s valuation of Bruno but this is \u2018only a suspicion\u2019 and yet to be tested.<\/p>\n

Moreover, when asked if Bruno\u2019s situation has become a \u2018distraction\u2019, writer George Caulkin said, \u2018Absolutely\u2019.<\/p>\n

All eyes will be whether or not Bruno takes a leaf out of Alexander Isak\u2019s book by refusing to train with the first-team in a bid to get an eye-catching move, something the Swede did prior to securing a \u00a3125m move to Liverpool in 2025.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Arsenal are reportedly trying to sign a centre-back to act as cover for defender William Saliba<\/a>, who is set to be out for an extended period with a back injury.<\/p>\n

Aston Villa\u2019s Ezri Konsa has been \u2018discussed\u2019 by Arsenal, as was free agent John Stones, although the former Manchester City man looks set to join Inter Milan instead.<\/p>\n

Another man on the Gunners\u2019 shortlist is said to be Como\u2019s Jacobo Ramon. However, there is a \u2018significant complication\u2019 in that deal as Real Madrid own 50% of his economic rights and they have a buy-back clause for the 21-year-old.<\/p>\n

Arsenal are trying to recruit Vinicius Junior, who is in the last year of his Madrid contract. If he chooses to stay on with Los Blancos, the Gunners may be reluctant to line the pockets of the Spanish giants with a Ramon transfer.<\/p>\n

Either way, sporting director Andrea Berta is set for a busy last few weeks of the transfer window.<\/p>\n
