Andrew Haire, 35, had been sleeping rough in Cork and had received assistance from a homeless charity in the city before travelling to Dublin on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He arrived there safely but was discovered dead at the Greyhound recycling facility in Clondalkin shortly after 9pm on Friday.<\/p>\n
Investigators believe his body may have been inside a wheelie bin that was subsequently emptied at the depot. It is not known whether he voluntarily entered the bin to sleep when he returned to Dublin on Thursday, or whether he was placed there by someone else.<\/p>\n
An autopsy did not establish a conclusive cause of death and garda\u00ed are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Haire’s death.<\/p>\n
Mr Haire, who was originally from Co Meath, had experienced significant personal tragedy in recent years.<\/p>\n
In July 2024, two men he knew well, Donal Scanlon, 49, from Ballybunion, Co Kerry, and Alex Warnick, 42, from the US, were found dead near the Charlemont Luas stop in Dublin.<\/p>\n
Mr Haire had been in a close relationship with Mr Scanlon and had shared a tent with him before his death.<\/p>\n
The deaths of Mr Scanlon and Mr Warnick prompted renewed debate about the safety and welfare of people experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n
Mr Haire later assisted garda\u00ed with their investigation into the two men’s deaths.<\/p>\n
He has been described as \u201cone of the nicest, funniest characters\u201d who was \u201cnever a bother to anyone”.<\/p>\n
A Lending Hand, a group which helps the homeless in Dublin, paid tribute to Mr Haire on social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cI cannot believe I’m writing this about you, you were one of the nicest, funniest characters I’ve had the pleasure of knowing, always checked in at the end of our Outreach on a Friday night to see how we were and for us to see how he was,\u201d the group stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlways had a new way to try and tackle the system to make it better for everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe always had a story for us and was always in good form!!! He was never a bother to anyone, his partner will be waiting on him with open arms in heaven, he lost him in a freak accident two or three years ago and never got over it.<\/p>\n
\u201cRest in peace pal, we will miss you so much, our condolences to your friends and family at this really sad time, we love you pal and miss you already.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Another mourner wrote on social media: \u201cAwh what [a] true gent. Loved spending time on canals chatting with both Andrew & Donal while out feeding homeless. Heart breaks, such tragedy to both.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Those who met Mr Haire through homeless services in Cork in the days before his death described him as a quiet man who \u201ckept himself to himself\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He had been accessing welfare and homelessness supports in Cork and Dublin in recent months.<\/p>\n
It is believed Mr Haire was in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Cork city centres between Friday, July 17, and Friday, July 24.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are seeking the public\u2019s assistance in establishing Mr Haire\u2019s movements at that time.<\/p>\n

Greyhound Recycling said that it was \u201cdeeply saddened\u201d by the death of Mr Haire, whose body was found at its recycling facility in Clondalkin.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur thoughts are with his family and friends,\u201d a statement read. \u201cWe are co-operating fully with An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na and will continue to give their investigation every assistance.<\/p>\n
