The Deposit Return Scheme <\/p>\n
Cork shoppers could be saying goodbye to paper deposit vouchers – as retailers look at bringing Ireland\u2019s Deposit Return Scheme into the digital age.<\/p>\n
The move could see refunds stored directly on customers\u2019 phones through supermarket apps, making lost receipts a thing of the past.<\/p>\n
Lidl customers can now keep their Deposit Return Scheme refunds digitally through the Lidl Plus app. Before returning bottles and cans, shoppers open the \u201cMy Deposits\u201d section in the app and scan the QR code displayed on the reverse vending machine.<\/p>\n
After completing their return, the deposit refund is saved directly in their Lidl Plus account and can be redeemed at checkout by scanning the Lidl Plus app. The digital deposit voucher doesn’t expire but will disappear if you delete your Lidl Plus account permanently.<\/p>\n
Dunnes Stores customers can also digitise their paper vouchers by scanning them into the Dunnes app. Shoppers simply open the voucher section in the app, use the scan option to capture the barcode or voucher details from their paper receipt, and save it digitally so it is available on their phone when they shop.<\/p>\n
Dunnes Deposit Return Scheme vouchers remain linked to the paper receipt system, meaning shoppers need to keep the voucher safe until they redeem it in store.<\/p>\n
The same idea can also apply to Dunnes money-off rewards, such as the popular \u20ac5 off \u20ac25 spend vouchers. Instead of keeping the paper voucher in a purse or car, customers can scan the voucher into the app and have their discount ready to use at the checkout.<\/p>\n
