A woman has been charged with breaching an order protecting the identities of two victims sexually abused by former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson.<\/p>\n
The 55-year-old was arrested in the Ballynahinch area of Co Down yesterday and has been charged with a breach of a lifetime ban on reporting the identity of alleged victims.<\/p>\n
She is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates Court on 24 August.<\/p>\n
A jury in Newry Crown Court last month unanimously found the former MP guilty of 18 sexual offences, including one count of rape.<\/p>\n
The offences were committed against two women when they were children.<\/p>\n
He is currently remanded in custody in Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim awaiting sentencing, and has lodged an application to appeal the verdict.<\/p>\n
Victims of sexual crimes are guaranteed anonymity for life unless they decide to waive that.<\/p>\n
Police and Northern Ireland’s Attorney General issued several warnings during the trial process that breaching that order would be contempt of court.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the PSNI said detectives wanted to take this opportunity to remind people that naming or alluding to victims in cases such as this may result in arrest and subsequent charge to court.<\/p>\n
