In an interview with our friend Joanna Stern<\/a> on her YouTube channel<\/a>, OpenAI president Greg Brockman said the company is working on a \u201cfamily of devices\u201d for interacting with its AI models. However, Brockman didn\u2019t confirm reports<\/a> that one of those devices is a smart speaker OpenAI\u2019s rumored to be launching in 2027, or earlier rumors that the device might be a wearable<\/a> like the Humane AI pin. He didn\u2019t give a release date, either, only saying that \u201cyou can expect them soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked about whether Apple\u2019s lawsuit against OpenAI<\/a> could impact the devices it\u2019s working on with former Apple designer Jony Ive<\/a>, Brockman said, \u201cWe are focused on our own development and technology.\u201d He went on to add, \u201cWe have no interest in other companies\u2019 trade secrets. We are plenty innovative. We are thinking about things from our own angle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whatever form OpenAI\u2019s new devices take, Brockman says he thinks we\u2019ll shift to talking to our computers rather than typing for the \u201cvast majority of what we do.\u201d As far as the problem of everyone talking to their computers in an open office, he brought up soundproof \u201cbeak\u201d masks that have started to appear, saying that while he doesn\u2019t use one, \u201cit really shows you where there\u2019s product market fit,\u201d even if everyone agrees that\u2019s not going to be a good solution.<\/p>\n
