For the first time in 75 years (no, I\u2019m not talking about Mayo winning Sam Maguire), Fleadh Cheoil na h\u00c9ireann<\/a> is coming to Belfast<\/a>. <\/p>\n

With more than 100 live events scheduled across the week, the world\u2019s largest celebration of Irish music and culture is expected to welcome more than 800,000 people to Belfast. <\/p>\n

When and where is it?<\/p>\n

Fleadh Cheoil 2026 will takes place in Belfast, Ireland\u2019s only Unesco<\/a> city of music, from Sunday, August 2nd, to Sunday, August 9th.<\/p>\n

Events will take place at various spots across the city, with the organisers having said the whole of Belfast is the festival\u2019s stage. A central portion of the city will be pedestrianised with dedicated road closures around its perimeter. More specific information on road closures can be found at belfastcity.gov.uk\/fleadh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

City centre venues will include the Waterfront Hall and Ulster University, as well as custom-built outdoor stages such as the \u201cGig Rig\u201d outside Belfast City Hall and smaller tents at Belfast sculptures like the Big Fish.<\/p>\n

A Fringe Fleadh will take place in the city centre as well as in neighbourhoods across greater Belfast. Pop-up performances will animate squares and streets while heritage trails and family c\u00e9il\u00eds will take place across communities.<\/p>\n

Many of the events are free, and don\u2019t require booking. The main stage of the event known as the Gig Rig will offer free live performances across all eight days of the festival. A full schedule can be found on the Fleadh website, which includes hundreds of competitions, c\u00e9il\u00eds, trails, talks and tours.<\/p>\n

Some events do require booking in advance to help manage capacity. One key staple of the Fleadh Cheoil that requires tickets is the Senior C\u00e9il\u00ed Band Competition taking place on the final day of the festival in Waterfront Hall. A \u00a325 (\u20ac29) ticket will grant you access to the competition, a grand finale to the Fleadh which has historically been a launch pad for some of the biggest names in the trad scene. <\/p>\n

Other ticketed events to keep an eye out for include the Ceol na Cruinne Comhaltas International Showcase, the prestigious Ard Ollamh awards, and the Ards Comhaltas Ceolt\u00f3ir\u00ed \u00c9ireann 50th anniversary concert. All tickets can be booked through the website. <\/p>\n

How do I get there?<\/p>\n

Festival organisers have encouraged people to walk, cycle or take public transport<\/a> the closer they get to the city centre, as opposed to driving all the way.<\/p>\n

By car<\/p>\n

Three dedicated park-and-ride sites will operate during the week on the main approach routes into Belfast, located at Eikon Exhibition Centre by the M1, Giant\u2019s Park off the M2, and Belfast harbour near the M3.<\/p>\n

Parking at a park-and-ride site will cost \u00a310 (\u20ac11.50) a day, with each site being serviced by free shuttle buses into the city centre. <\/p>\n

Car parking needs to be booked in advance through the Fleadh Cheoil website at fleadhcheoil.ie\/travel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

By train<\/p>\n

Iarnr\u00f3d \u00c9ireann<\/a> runs up to 15 trains daily to Belfast from Dublin\u2019s Connolly Station. From Thursday, August 6th, to Sunday, August 9th, Iarnr\u00f3d \u00c9ireann will also run an additional train from Belfast to Connolly at 11.55pm, for those looking to travel home after a full day at the festival. There will also be additional late-night train services from Belfast Grand Central Station to locations including Colraine, Derry, Larne, Bangor, Lisburn and Newry.<\/p>\n

By bus<\/p>\n

Translink will run special return bus services to Belfast for the festival from different towns and cities across Northern Ireland, as well as additional late-night buses. Tickets for the specials services must be booked online, which you can do here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you are coming from the South, coach services depart hourly from the Bus\u00e1ras station in Dublin city centre. Check the Bus \u00c9ireann<\/a> website for more information. <\/p>\n

Where can I stay?<\/p>\n

For those looking to pitch a tent, there will be two official Fleadh campsites in Belfast, each offering a safe, secure, and family-friendly camping experience with 24-hour security and easy access to the city centre. <\/p>\n

A site at Titanic Quarter will offer camper van and caravan facilities in one of Belfast\u2019s best-known locations, while traditional tent camping will be available at Ormeau Park in south Belfast.<\/p>\n

For less earthy travellers, Belfast has a wide range of hotels, B&B\u2019s and registered accommodation providers including hostels, serviced accommodation and student accommodation. <\/p>\n

What\u2019s the weather forecast looking like?<\/p>\n

While accurate weather forecasts are not yet available for the duration of the week, Met \u00c9ireann predicts medium temperatures from the mid to high teens, as well as consistent cloud cover.<\/p>\n

With showers expected for the start of the week, anyone attending the festival may want to bring layers and a poncho to stay dry. <\/p>\n

Anything else?<\/p>\n

Toilets including accessible facilities will be available at Belfast City Hall grounds, Fountain Lane, Hill Street and Verner Street, with parent-and-child changing facilities available at Belfast City Hall and Hill Street.<\/p>\n

For those looking for spots to eat during the week, the Food Village in the grounds Belfast Cathedral will have an array of options to represent Belfast\u2019s thriving food scene, while a dedicated food and drink market will run ICC Belfast throughout the week.<\/p>\n
