Speaking on the Fox Footy AFL 360 show<\/a>, Cats coach Chris Scott explained: \u201cOis\u00edn Mullin had taken a phone-call from the Mayo coach just planting a seed about possibly after our game against Melbourne on Friday night that he might be able to pop over to Ireland to play in the final and then come back.<\/p>\n\u201cThis is, bearing in mind right in the period where we have three weeks where Ois\u00edn is going to play on.<\/p>\n
“Then the next week he has (Collingwood) and the next week after that plus an All-Ireland final! We were kind of open to the conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many believed the information to be false, or that Scott might have been exaggerating.<\/p>\n
However, when asked about whether there were talks, Mullin confirmed that the claims were true.<\/p>\n
Speaking after Mayo’s win, he said: “I did have a chat with the coach back home and Chris here.<\/p>\n
“Obviously, in the off season, Geelong gave me an extended period at home, and I was fortunate that Mayo let me join them to train in the off season as well, so there was that connection there.<\/p>\n
“So the coach just touched base with me from home and I had a chat with Scotty, but with circumstances where we are and the time of the season, it just didn’t work out.<\/p>\n
“So I was just excited to watch on from here and to see the boys get the result and get it done.”<\/p>\n
A potential return for Mayo’s Mullin<\/p>\n
Just last week Mullin spoke about his desire to return for his club Kilmaine this season if his schedule allows for it.<\/p>\n
He said:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019d be hoping to wear the green and red again this year \u2013 the green and red of Kilmaine!<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d love to get back and play in the club championship, but the county championship starts early now and by the time we\u2019re finished in Geelong, it\u2019s over for Kilmaine too.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully, this year they\u2019re in the running when I\u2019m finished here and I\u2019ll get the chance to get back.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs regards Mayo, I\u2019m contracted here at the moment and loving it. I\u2019m content and happy at Geelong and I\u2019m not in a rush back just yet, but hopefully some day I\u2019ll be putting the jersey back on.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Well there you go!
