EastEnders actor Stephen Aaron-Sipple has teased that his character Mark Fowler Jr will see some of his hard edges soften in upcoming scenes, as his feelings for Lauren Branning become more real.<\/p>\n

Mark and Lauren have embarked on a dodgy business hustle, shifting stolen cars together. All that being around each other has made it impossible to ignore their mutual attraction, and they ended up giving into their passion.<\/p>\n

Explaining their chemistry, Aaron-Sipple said: “Beyond the physical attraction, Mark sees Lauren as his equal. She challenges him, stands up to him, and isn’t intimidated by him.<\/p>\n

“He’s always been surrounded by strong females, so there’s something about Lauren’s strength and honesty that really draws him in.”<\/p>\n

Mark tries to get Lauren’s attention<\/a> by flirting with Jack’s colleague, something the actor describes as “completely the wrong way” of doing it, explaining: “Seeing her with Peter has hurt him, so he makes a bad decision and tries to make her jealous.”<\/p>\n

Overall, he states that Mark is left feeling “very vulnerable” as he admits his feelings for Lauren, stating: “[He] likes to be in control, but in that moment he’s completely exposed. Not only has he admitted how he feels, but he’s also left without an answer from Lauren, which is something he’s really not used to.”<\/p>\n

After playing Mark as the ‘bad boy’ since he joined the show, Aaron-Sipple stated that he’s really been enjoying delving into his character’s softer, more vulnerable side.<\/p>\n

“It’s been great fun,” he said. “Nobody is tough all the time, so it’s been nice exploring a different side of Mark beyond his hard-man persona. We all have people we can let our guard down with, and for Mark, Lauren has become that person.<\/p>\n

“She doesn\u2019t judge him for who he is, and that allows him to be more playful, open and vulnerable around her.<\/p>\n

“Mark obviously has Vicki, and he had a similar relationship with Sam when she was on the Square, but since Sam left, Lauren has become that person for him.”<\/p>\n

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast. <\/p>\n
