{"id":576058,"date":"2026-07-30T20:31:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T20:31:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/576058\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T20:31:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T20:31:11","slug":"much-loved-donegal-canon-dies-just-nine-months-after-wifes-tragic-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/576058\/","title":{"rendered":"Much-loved Donegal Canon dies just nine months after wife&#8217;s tragic death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A beloved Church of Ireland Minister has died &#8211; just nine months after his wife was killed in a road traffic collision in Donegal.<\/p>\n<p>Rev Canon Stanley Johnson, who lived in Gweedore, passed away on Wednesday in a Dublin hospital following a short illness.<\/p>\n<p>His wife, Rev Shiela Johnson, nee Rowe, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/lead-stories\/tributes-paid-to-church-of-ireland-minister-who-died-in-donegal-collision-612625\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">died in a single-vehicle collision at Kilraine, Glenties<\/a> on October 29, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The couple, who were married for almost 60 years, lived at Rainbow\u2019s End, Carrickmacafferty, Derrybeg having moved to Donegal in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Canon Stanley Johnson was installed as the Rector of Clondehorkey and Mevagh and he retired in 2009 while his wife served as Priest-in-Charge of the Parish of Clondevaddock, also requiring in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, they served together in the Diocese of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh between 1989 and 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Canon Johnson is survived by son Timothy, daughters Melanie and Wendy, son-in-law Derrick, daughter-in-law Fiona, grandchildren Cian, Aoife and her husband Cailem, Roisin, Diarmuid and his wife Eva, Caoimhe, Ruth, Katy and Thomas and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There will be no wake and the public are advised that the house will be private.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-sans font-semibold text-xl md:text-[30px] leading-9 text-primary w-full\">\n        You may also be interested in\n    <\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/sport-lead\/fans-favourite-ciaran-gallagher-back-at-finn-harps-as-goalkeeping-coach-643848\" class=\"block w-2\/5 shrink-0\" aria-label=\"Fans&#039; favourite Ciaran Gallagher back at Finn Harps - as goalkeeping coach\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/fans-039-favourite-ciaran-gallagher-back-at-finn-harps-as-goalkeeping-coach.png\" class=\"max-w-full w-full h-full object-contain relative z-10\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\"  alt=\"Fans' favourite Ciaran Gallagher back at Finn Harps - as goalkeeping coach\" \/><\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/www.donegaldaily.com\/lead-stories\/new-owners-of-spectacular-donegal-beachfront-property-revealed-643682\" class=\"block w-2\/5 shrink-0\" aria-label=\"New owners of spectacular Donegal beachfront property revealed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/new-owners-of-spectacular-donegal-beachfront-property-revealed.jpg\" class=\"max-w-full w-full h-full object-contain relative z-10\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\"  alt=\"New owners of spectacular Donegal beachfront property revealed\" \/><\/p>\n<p>            <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Viewing will take place at the Eternal Light Chapel of Rest, Mountain Top, Letterkenny, Co.
