Soundgarden<\/a>\u2018s final album is now being mixed.<\/p>\n

The iconic grunge band have long hinted they will release their final album with frontman Chris Cornell<\/a>, who took his own life in 2017<\/a>. The band were writing new material with Cornell in the period leading up to his death.<\/p>\n

On the eighth anniversary of Cornell\u2019s passing in 2025, Soundgarden teased what new music might sound like<\/a>. \u201cIt feels good and invigorating to hear Chris singing from over that horizon\u201d, they wrote at the time. That\u00a0followed on\u00a0from\u00a0initial\u00a0reports in 2023 that\u00a0the band had settled a legal dispute with Cornell\u2019s estate<\/a> that included the rights to several unreleased songs. By the end of 2025, the band said they were \u201cpretty close\u201d to finishing the album<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, drummer Matt Cameron has confirmed the album is currently being mixed. On the\u00a0Let There Be Talk\u00a0podcast, Cameron said though the band don\u2019t have a release date yet, \u201cwe\u2019re just gonna try to get this thing mixed, get it over the finish line, and then hopefully we\u2019ll have a better idea what\u2019s gonna come next. We\u2019re just taking it one step at a time \u2019cause it\u2019s been kind of a long process just to get to here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cameron also confirmed there would be eight songs with Cornell on the record. \u201cI think that that\u2019s pretty much all there is with vocals,\u201d he remarked. \u201cWe had some instrumentals left over that [guitarist] Kim [Thayil] wants work on. So maybe we\u2019ll do some new stuff together, which would be fine by me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Soundgarden were inducted by Jim Carrey into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.<\/a> The White Stripes<\/a>,\u00a0OutKast<\/a>,\u00a0Cyndi Lauper<\/a>, Chubby Checker,\u00a0Bad Company<\/a> and Joe Cocker were also inducted on the night.<\/p>\n

Carrey told the audience that night that he once hosted\u00a0SNL and requested\u00a0Soundgarden be the musical guest, and was gifted Cornell\u2019s Fender Telecaster after the show. \u201cWhen the Seattle music scene exploded, it resurrected rock and roll for me,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I heard Soundgarden for the first time, I wasn\u2019t just excited. I wanted to put a flannel shirt on and run into the streets screaming, \u2018My mother smoked during pregnancy!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
