If you ever wondered what Peter Dinklage<\/a> might be like as a basket weaver in a strange romantic fantasy that even puts some of the absurd aspects in Game of Thrones <\/a>to shame, then you\u2019re in for a real treat with Wicker.<\/p>\n

What is Wicker, you might ask? Well, I\u2019m glad you did. Wicker is a new romantic fantasy movie from directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, based on a short story called \u201cThe Wicker Husband.\u201d The basic plot is about an outcast at a fishing village who, seeking human companionship, decides to enlist the help of a basket weaver (Peter Dinklage) to create a husband for her out of wicker. Then, absurdity ensues at its finest.<\/p>\n

The trailer for the film was just released on Thursday, July 30, and you just have to watch it to believe it’s real. <\/p>\n

As you can see, Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd stars as the Wicker Husband. Is it just me, or does he look like Fiyero\u2019s long-lost cousin from Wicked?<\/p>\n

Dinklage and Skarsg\u00e5rd are joined by Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Debicki, Marli Siu, and Nabhaan Rizwan in the film. Distributed by Black Bear Pictures, Wicker will be released this fall on Oct. 23, 2026, just in time for Halloween.<\/p>\n

While this does sound like a silly little concept, honestly, I\u2019m here for it. There are plenty of great fantasy adaptations in the works,<\/a> but something like this \u2014 where it is just so egregiously out there and wild that even then you\u2019re still very interested \u2014 is the kind of fantasy we need.<\/p>\n

After watching the trailer, it seems like this works well for Dinklage. The actor recently spoke about the \u201cfrustrating reality\u201d<\/a> of playing characters like Tyrion Lannister<\/a> from Game of Thrones in the Variety \u201cActors on Actors\u201d series with Kit Harington<\/a>. He also mentioned that he knows people want to see him do more of those roles. Still, he didn\u2019t want to go \u201cright into doing that more.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Tyrion is one of the best TV characters in modern television history<\/a> and Dinklage gives a masterclass in acting in any show or movie he is in, it’s understandable that he wants a different challenge from a variety of roles. This is certainly out there. <\/p>\n

Dinklage has been on a roll playing different kinds of characters in the last few years. Wicker is just continuing that trend. Since Game of Thrones ended, he has starred in the romantic drama musical film Cyrano, had a major role in Thor: Love and Thunder, and voiced a goat professor in Wicked. <\/p>\n

On the TV side, he\u2019s had a few guest-starring roles, but nothing as substantial as his run as Tyrion. This year, he\u2019s going to be a part of the Alien: Earth season 2 cast<\/a>. In fact, he\u2019s one of three Game of Thrones universe alums<\/a> to appear in that show. He will appear alongside Jerome Flynn, who played Bronn, and Sam Spruell, who played Prince Maekar Targaryen, in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.<\/p>\n

We’ll share more news about Dinklage in Wicker and his other upcoming projects as we find. I have a feeling I\u2019ll be at the theater watching this wackiness come to life when Wicker premieres on Oct. 23. <\/p>\n
