BBC Radio 1 Dance is refreshing its schedule later this year, with Charlie Tee becoming the new host of the station\u2019s daily afternoon show, Martha launching a brand-new monthly show celebrating UK club culture, and a fresh line-up joining The Residency on Radio 1 Dance.<\/p>\n
Charlie Tee will become the new host of Radio 1 Dance\u2019s daily afternoon show (Monday to Sunday, 12pm\u20133pm). Soundtracking afternoons with the hottest new, current and classic dance tunes, Charlie will bring listeners the biggest tracks, freshest sounds and timeless favourites from across the dance scene. Matty Chiabi will continue to present the station\u2019s 6am-9am show as part of the refreshed daytime line-up.<\/p>\n
Charlie Tee says: \u201cAbsolutely elated to be joining the Radio 1 Dance line up in the afternoons. Dance music is my life\u2019s passion and I cannot wait to get started!\u201d<\/p>\n
In other news, Martha will host a brand-new monthly three-hour show dedicated to UK club culture, shining a spotlight on the UK\u2019s thriving electronic underground. The programme will support local club scenes, championing grassroots DJs, artists and sounds, while celebrating more established names from across the dance community. Each show will explore a different area of the scene, whether that\u2019s a city, region, club, collective or genre, highlighting the people and communities shaping the UK\u2019s club culture.<\/p>\n
Martha says: \u201cAfter almost 3 years of platforming underground club sounds on Radio 1, I want this new show to amplify, document and reflect British club culture. I hope to build a home for our next generation of underground dance producers, celebrate the underground scenes bubbling up and down the UK that influence wider culture and give a voice to the spaces we treasure so much, where this music sounds its very best: our clubs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alongside these changes, from Thursday 6 August, the station will also welcome a new line-up to The Residency on Radio 1 Dance, with world-renowned DJs and some of the most exciting names in dance music, Silva Bumpa, Paige Tomlinson, Sam Alfred and Effy playing some of the biggest tunes every Thursday for four weeks from 11pm-1am. There will also be a special one-off show today (Thursday 30 July) from award-winning DJ and producer Jonas Blue.<\/p>\n

The Residency on Radio 1 Dance continues every Thursday from 11pm\u20131am on Radio 1 and Radio 1 Dance, bringing listeners into the world of some of the biggest names in pioneering, high-energy dance and electronic music, shining a spotlight on the freshest, most influential and emerging sounds from across the UK and international club scene.<\/p>\n

Following support from Radio 1, including Jaguar, Sarah Story and Danny Howard, he has become a standout name in the UK club scene with his energetic sound and forward-thinking productions.<\/p>\n

Being based in the UK my love for the station has grown even more now I\u2019m in the same time zone! Most people know how vast my taste in music is, so to have the opportunity to show people some of my record collection and also some other tastes I have is super exciting. Effy (November)<\/p>\n
As a producer, DJ, radio host and label founder from the North West of England, Effy has built an international reputation through her distinctive blend of breaks, electro and UK bass. Inspired by female producers such as Maya Jane Coles, her 2020 debut single Fluffy Clouds premiered via Mixmag and was supported by BBC Introducing Dance, quickly leading to a radio residency at London\u2019s Rinse FM. Since then, she has released four EPs, played iconic venues including Fabric, Parklife and The Warehouse Project, and toured across Europe, Australia and North America.<\/p>\n
Effy says: \u201cAs someone who listened to Radio 1 on the way to school every morning, being able to host my own show is a real privilege for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
